    • I got the car back from the garage as promised, and they even managed to fix all the oil leaks (valve cover gasket, high pressure fuel pump gasket and front main seal), but I'm not that happy with how they did the chain. They appear to have reused the crank pulley stretch bolt, and now the exhaust cam reference position is even further off time than it already was, almost at the maximum (+9.75 deg, of +/-10 deg maximum compensation). But nevertheless test drive through the centre of Moscow was very successful: So I set off, not wanting to waste time, I don't have much to report. Russia - Estonia border was very fast, under 4 hours, as expected Russian side checked everything, including flicking through books for hidden money, but Estonian side was completely hassle free. After that I just drove for 4 more days, 400+ miles everyday, car was more or less okay. Injector/emissions control system problem rears its ugly head in heavy traffic and the engine starts to misfire if running at low speeds for more than half an hour. But at last made it to England, with all my stuff, and a mostly working old 3 series. I have a lot of things to do now, like starting a new job, finding somewhere to live... Hopefully the BMW will behave itself until I can find time to fix everything on my list: Fit emissions NOx sensor emulator. Possibly change 1 or more injectors.  Brake overhaul (front: pads, rear: calipers, hoses, pads, discs, hand brake shoes) Replace oil pump drive chain and inspect big end shells for damage. Reset timing, replace stretch bolts.
    • Depends upon the ship. Initially it goes into our waste oil tanks. And that holds for all our ships. After that, for this current ship (and the other two US West Coast vessels) we transfer all ER Oily Waste into a cargo tank and send it to the refinery. We can do this because we are all the same company! The rest of the rest of the fleet this option is not available. So they generally incinerate it all, except for the odd occasion they can get a slop barge, but this is an expensive option. The scary thing with the cost of this oil, we use the "cheap" oil! The "Quality" stuff I dread to think of the cost.
    • The MAP sensor is integral to the megajolt.  With the slight caveat that it's the map sensor from the old megajolt, soldered to the new megajolt.  There is revision change between the two units, but I'm 90% certain the sensors are the same. It's connected via a hose linked to the manifold vacuum takeoff at the point where the original distributor vacuum advance was connected.  The new hose is maybe slightly longer as the megajolt is in the passenger seat footwell, but shouldn't be enough to cause issue. EDIT: I think I just found the spec. of the sensor.  It's discontinued, but  RS have stock.  https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/pressure-sensor-ics/7191074 For £25 I should probably just take a punt on it.  The countdown to the rolling road day is still 2 weeks away, so I'll take a look at the bits this weekend and maybe order one if I can't see an obvious improvement. Also, although it feels a little presumptuous given the above, I should probably pester @mpbarrett to borrow his timing light and get the offset dialed in properly - little point sharing a map if it's got a consistant offset.
    • What map sensor and how connected to the manifold?
    • That was an ordinary rat trap John. Not very reliable as squirrels are a bit big and can reach the bait area with stepping on the trigger plate. Which is why I smear that too. It was crashing around again this morning so nothing has worked yet
    • Nerd alert. That is the starboard main landing gear of a Convair B-36 bomber. There must be some value in having all this crap in my head
    • Honestly, after trying various stuff, rat poison works a treat and sorts thd problem quickly. Downside is you may get a temporary nasty whiff depending where they die.
    • Fair point Roger  But that's probably another reason why I'd just dig an old stabiliser out of the box of old spares.
    • Hello All              Just checked my notes 2011 I converted it and 54,000miles ago! I think I will call it a Win? Roger
