Post Reactions

Recommended Posts

Having just interacted with the CT forum for the first time in quite a long time, I noticed that when someone reacts to a post (the thumbs up bit below each post) it tells you who reacted.

I have noted for some time that here you simply get told that "someone" has reacted to post, not who. Never thought anything of it, until now. Is this just a difference between software, or something more sinister?

I think, Craig will know, that this site, Club Triumph, the TRR and TSSC all use the same bulletin board software, which is "configurable" (! as I knew what that meant, apart form being 'adjustable')

It does?  Doesn't seem to for me?  I know this platform can do it as the Old School NZ forum does in some detail, even if you are not the OP.  However, I'm still not getting it here.  So yes, it's a configurable feature.....  do you prefer to see....or no?

on the CT forum I get a notification if somebody reacts to one of my posts, telling me who did it. I assumed everybody did. Or maybe I have ticked a box somewhere?

On this forum I get a "somebody reacted"  On OSNZ it also tells me who, and I (or anyone else iirc) can click on the reactions on the bottom of the post and see who did it.  I quite like it.  CT, having just checked, looks like it's the same.

Yup, that's what I found on CT.

Have to confess I'd always thought it was weird that Sideways didn't tell you who reacted, seemed like an odd thing to keep anonymous but figured that was an Invision thing.

I mean, it's definitely in the "nice to have" category rather than a deal breaker. But I'm a firm believer in "if you don't ask, you don't get", along with "the worst they can say is no" lol.

Yeah, that's already enabled. I get the notification for reactions, just not who by.

I get a message to say that you quoted me - you should now get a message to say I quoted you.

I've also clicked "like" so you should get that notification too - It will be interesting to see whether it identifies the source.

Mmmmmmmmmmm.  "Facebook friends"    Anyone else get 'friend requests' that turn out to be pouting young ladies who know absolutely no one who you know?   Yes, my ape avatar makes me a babe magnet, but this is ridiculous!

This is what I get:

As I mentioned above, it's not a deal breaker by any means, this falls into the nice to have camp. I mentioned it in case it was simply a "check the box" mod.

I had always assumed it was just a feature of Invision, as this was the only board I used that has this software. Then I used CT and learned otherwise.

That one?

Craig,

If you've just changed it, then it hasn't had the effect I was expecting.  There must be yet another back end setting that displays who it was that gave the reaction.

I'll have a look in the back end of the board I manage to see if I can find another setting.

Where did you fin d that, Phil?   It looks like a Facebook page, but AFAIK there is no Sideways Fb page, and there is the Sideways URL at the top.

John, that screen comes from clicking on the Notification icon at the top of the screen (the bell symbol)

Craig, @GT6MK3

Digging deeper in the back end of an Invision board, the setting to show who reacted is set on a per group basis.

On the Members/Groups/"group name"/Social tab, scroll down to reactions and enable "Can view who reacted?"

Repeat for each group you want to be able to see who reacted.

This is the mobile site John, my normal mode of access these days.

I do use the laptop, but when I'm onboard we can only log one device at a time onto the network, and we have a data limit. Hence I generally keep the laptop "offline" and do all my online stuff on my phone, and whilst I use the laptop online at home I still tend to do most stuff with the phone from habit.

Damn, you're right, John!

I have the same thing on Instagram - I post a picture of a(n admittedly sexy) TR6 and I get 'likes' and new 'follows' from semi-clad ladies who know nobody I know. It can only be the alluring simian avatar...
