JohnD Posted April 17 Posted April 17 My Fb account has been hacked AGAIN! I can't get in as the password has been changed, AND my email address AND my mobile number! When I appeal to Fb of this, I'm told that my account has been blocked, because I'm sending messages too fast, which tells me that all those "Please chat with poor me/send me Amazon vouchers/I have leukaemia" messages are being sent to every one on my mailing list. They will recognise them and delete them this time, and not worry, I hope. Phil got me going again by appealing to Fb as the "friend of a deceased or disabled" member, but I think I would be well rid of Faceache, so please don't bother, Phil or anyone else. I hereby resign from Facebook. How can I tell FB of that? John
thebrookster Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Again, John? That's impressive! I wonder if they have followed the same procedure we did, and reported your actual details as hacked to recover back to them? Anyway, I would fight it again, and get control back. Then make the decision whether to close the account or not, but don't leave it in their hands. Additionally, might I suggest that you find a local IT specialist to completely comb through your PC, and check for anything untoward? These guys have access to something, and there is a chance it is something on your PC. I appreciate you have various bits of software to secure you, but if they are already behind it the software is next to useless. It may even be you need to completely wipe your disk and start from scratch, I can't say from here. Not to denigrate your pc skills, but you need a tame nerd lol. Best of luck, Phil
JohnD Posted April 17 Author Posted April 17 I've got Norton, Malwarebytes AND Cr*pCleaner, all working away, find lots of redundant stuff to remove, but no alarms. CC has just this moment put up a window saying it has found junk! My local IT 'specialist' is Dixons, who I think are scammers themselves, at least of your wallet. Hang on, there is an independent, Black Bear in town, perhaps worth asking. John
JohnD Posted April 17 Author Posted April 17 And, has YouTube changed? I used to go there, and see a whole list of suggested videos down the side, mostly aligned with my interests> I've just been there and that list is gone, with the other way they have of displaying videos to choose from, like 'Images' on Google, but bigger But look at what's there - this is just a screen grab: "The TRUTH about Islam", "Islamists and British Patriots face off in London", scroll down to "Trump's Hole-in-One!", and, the gods save us, "Tommy Robinson". Have the Barkers of the Far Right taken it over? John

I wouldn't bother with Dixon's, use the independent guy (assuming he has good reviews etc etc).

JohnD Posted April 17 Author Posted April 17 DoH! Thanks Phil! But if that's a "random" selection wat's in YouTube, it shows you what lot of Barkers there are!
PaulAA Posted April 18 Posted April 18 If I may indulge in a bit of threar diversion... Other than a couple of car-related fora and LinkedIn for the day job, my only engagement with social media is Instagram, with one account for car stuff and one for the business. Being from the realm of FB, Instagram has become a pretty nasty environment, in which you are constantly 'bated' with stuff the algorithm has evidently realised you are not interested but can be persuaded to react to. And when you do react, or block accounts, the algorithm feeds you more of the same. As a result, my account is inundated with the nastiest of Christian National, evangelical and pro-Trump... manure. I even had a clip of Farage dribbling some nonsense about Jesus. And there seems to be no way of stemming the flow. So, it looks like another minor bit of enjoyment, posting pictures of the TR and the XJ, has come to the end of the line and I will be free of Zuckerturd's vile sphere.
JohnD Posted April 18 Author Posted April 18 (edited) Oh, dear, this is weird. I got an email notice from Fb, one of those "So-and-so commented on Someone's post that you haven't seen" messages. I clicked on it, and I was back on Fb! With a note "Welcome back"! I looked at all the "Notifications", and there are none from anyone who might have had a scammer message (nor have I by email) and they go back two days, which including today is as long as I've been shut out. And as I said, Facebook said that I had been blocked for "going too fast", as if my account was sending lots of scamming messages, like before> But I'm in! So go to look at my security details, and they have my email address AND a hotmail.com which ain't mine, it was what the scammers used. Also I find that "Other login information" was sent from an Apple Ios7 on the 13th. THAT was the scammers! I go to change my password, and of course Fb wants to verify me, but it offers either an email to the hotmail address, or a text to 'my' mobile. The number shown is mainly ** with the last and first two digits shown, and they tally. But I don't get a verification message - the scammers must have altered the middle digits. OddsBodikins - did they set up a mobile number just because it was a few digits different from mine?? Welcome back, paranoia! I try to delete that address, it seems to work. I try to change my password, but "Well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I kinda lost track myself" and it seems I no longer know my own password! And "Forgotten Password" just gets me back to "You have been going to fast and your account is blocked". I try to re-log into Fb, and I am asked for my password, so got to Forgotten again - and I am offered "Open the Messenger app on a mobile device. If you use Messenger without Facebook, you can reset your password using the Messenger app on a mobile device. Learn more." Oooh! maybe I can do that. Messenger on the mobile is independent of Fb. Click on "Learn More" "Manage account settings when using Messenger without Facebook in the European Economic Area (EEA) This content isn't relevant in your location." AAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh! Edited April 18 by JohnD
Steve 13-60 Posted April 18 Posted April 18 I don't use anything connected to FB or Google. Signal is excellent for messenging.
