foshi Posted July 20, 2022 Posted July 20, 2022 best place to buy body panels need o/s rear bottom wing herald saloon paul
Steve 13-60 Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 Have you found anywhere yet? I also need to buy a pair. TD Fitchett don't sell them, but I do remember seeing some somewhere. However, I remember reading some where that some you can buy don't have the correct curvature
Nick Jones Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 https://www.jamespaddock.co.uk/rear-wing-lower-lh-3 Probably Canley Classics & Rimmers also, though Paddocks tend to be cheapest. A pair of used “cuts” on eBay just now too though the arches don’t look wonderful…..
Steve 13-60 Posted January 7, 2024 Posted January 7, 2024 Any one replaced front wings on a Herald 13/60? They were spot welded at the factory to the bonnet top, but I only have Mig/Tig machine. Could fuse the edges easily enough but does it give enough strength? Rear wheel arches also need replacing, any advice on the choice between full panels vs repair panels?
Nick Jones Posted January 7, 2024 Posted January 7, 2024 You can plug weld with the MIG (or TIG if you prefer) through the flange. Note the offset outwards of the wing relative to the top panel to match the swage profile in the door. This tapers outwards front to rear.
Mark Posted January 8, 2024 Posted January 8, 2024 (edited) As Nick says. I hole punched and plug welded the wings to the top panel of my Vitesse. Big mistake I made was fitting the wings to the bonnet whilst off the car. Lock up with no power meant removing the bonnet and welding the wings on at home. Didn't realise the wings taper out towards the door, and I just followed the edge of the top panel. Nasty surprise when fitted to the car and I could see the door hinges. Worst still I had to cut through each plug weld with a cut down hacksaw blade(blood sweat and tears). It's easier to cut a drill bit in half than cutting through a Mig plug weld. Take all the time needed to get the wings aligned before getting a welder near them! Edited January 8, 2024 by Mark 1

I noticed and did the other side properly. I’d welded the first one on really well and opted to not risk further calamity trying to correct it, so it’s been evidence of my ineptitude for 34 years so far….
Steve 13-60 Posted January 8, 2024 Posted January 8, 2024 Thanks for the advice, I would have welded off the car so would have aligned the edges!

After taking lots out of my car, I won't use them anywhere unless I really can't practically get the spot welder in there.
Steve 13-60 Posted January 8, 2024 Posted January 8, 2024 Thanks guys, looks like I need to hire a spot welder. Rates seem reasonable enough @ £45/week
