      From memory Clive, I think Jeroen suggested getting a Denso starter from a Toyota (any Toyota?) and using it's components. My experience of Lucas starters is that the starters are fine, it is the solenoids on Dolomite slant fours that give bother. P6B Rovers used a Lucas 6RA relay in the starter circuit to prevent difficult hot starting. Jeroen called this a bodge but didn't explain why.   thanks Ian

      Just had to change the drive shafts and drop links on the old CR-V - one got smashed by a pothole so deep it shattered the tripod and buckled the wheel. The Volvo XC60? Done 80,000 miles, all the springs replaced, upper mounts  and the rear driveshafts - those are the same bit as a Freelander - wrecked on ‘ordinary’ roads. Onwards and downwards - planning next summers road trip. No issues about the other side, but getting to the Eurotunnel seems to be a major expedition now for which a days travel allowance will be in order.

      Can relate. It’s more or less traditional for our continental trips to end with some horrible snarl-up on the UK roads; M20 or M25 typically. Last time it was the M25 and we got off at Reigate, just in time for the school run traffic, before lurching from pothole to shell crater all the way cross country to Guildford marvelling at the contrast with the smooth, pristine tarmac across the channel.

      I drove to Italy and back in the summer - 3,000 mile round trip. Calais to Italy back, not a single delay - Took me 8 hours to cover the last 125 miles from Ashford to Emsworth along the M20/M25/A3 roadworks hellscape.

      Hello Nick                   I saw a big bag of Growmore on Fleabay cheapish and it will probably last me out I just sprinkle a bit when digging etc I must admit they are getting a bit big and as long as the slugs etc do not get them they will last us for ages I did manage to find a few of the last runner beans today as well plus one leak so all went well with the fish pie Roger

      Hello All                 I think we are going to turn Orange soon?? Roger and the Peach coloured Memsahib ps we have 3 1/2 rows about 12feet long !!! pps plus I never thinned them out so jam packed in!

      Hello All              I must be Lucky?? I bought and fitted a Powerlite RAC401 in February 2015 from Powerlite them selves as they only a few miles away and have a Trade Counter so I got it a Trade price £118 I have stripped and cleaned it only once I think and may have fitted one new bearing(one of many in my stock??) I kept the old starter relay as well!! I recon it has done about 55,000 miles and goodness knows how many Starts but then it does not live by a HOT Exhaust pipe!!! I think the contacts looed ok after a good clean up etc Roger

      There are several different styles, some more complex shapes than others.  The ones in mine were simple and easy to fabricate from copper bus-bar. I just had to google for a picture to confirm what they were supposed to look like as there wasn’t much left!
