    • Your thoughts do make a lot of sense, as someone who went on this journey and had a lot of fun fettling the carbs on my Spitfire. The book you have is brilliant and it all works, I ended up making the little sticks with numbers on to put in the dash pots and custom needles on the drill press. You can get it into a very good state of tune without a rolling road, and you could even fit a wideband sensor to your exhaust if you want to confirm the results you think you are achieving. Ultimately I went down the fuel injection route as I liked optimising the car so much, in that way I guess the book and tuning carbs is a bit of a gateway drug towards EFI. As Nick says I think the logic you've been given may not bear out in reality, but at least you've now got one good setup to fall back on, and can use that as a benchmark to experiment further.
    • BTW my arms are 290mm from centre of the spindle to the centre point on the wiper blade, so possibly a bit longer than your current ones. Adjustable could be useful if you can find them. Do you have scope to use a longer blade or are you at the limit of what the screen edge will allow? Ian
    • Bon chance on this then Nick. I think the adjustable length arms are a good plan. Used them myself in the past and very handy for 'tuning' the wipers.
    • I think the bulb was genuinely intermittent. It’s possible the pressure switch code is a legacy of the previous issues with one failed brake circuit as there is a switch in each circuit and for sure they would have been seeing different values while that was going on….. though no ABS or traction control warning lights then, so the recent traction control light is just plain odd. My ex-LR colleague has a story about a Disco 3 that had a proven and repeatable complete systems meltdown caused by an intermittent brake light bulb.  Took them weeks to find it - eventually found by chance! I dunno…. And, if it continues to behave, I don’t care either!
    • Yeah…. I think this is it. The arms are not new, but are ones we didn’t use on the Spitfire. I don’t think we got any in the GT6 “kit”.    Probably I should invest in a set of the adjustable length arms and set them so they work. And the info you posted was useful as it proved that I have notionally the correct combination of parts assembled in the right way. So thanks. Yes…. Though I feel that most of the info is on the table now….. comments still welcome though!
    • Ah yes, re-reading for post I see that you have. Would it help if the offside ram was set at a higher parked position. Not ideal I know! Hopefully other GT6 mk3 and Spitfire 4/1500 will be along soon to enlighten us! Ian
    • Was that to a plausible value or just a fully implausible one?  As for the failed bulb business, wtf. That sounds like usual programmer doing a bodge job issue. Lazy barstewards...
    • I realise that my comments, while quite extensive, were in no way helpful  And also missed your point about the unswept bit in the middle.  I think that this is an issue with the length if the arms available today. When I first got the Scimitar the wipers and arms were completely shot so I got a new set. At which point there appeared an unswept gap between them. Longer blades didn't work as they interfered with each other and caught the top of the screen. All very puzzling until I compared the length of the old and new arms. The old ones (presumably the factory originals) were about 1/4 inch longer. And that seems to be the way of all the arms nowadays. Suspect the same is true for the Spitfire/GT6
    • So….. it’s been mostly behaving. I did change the oil and filter, including a dose of engine flush beforehand.  Also went from 5/30 (piss!) to 10/40. Doesn’t seem to be using much now. It’s also doing more (alot more) miles now its keeper has “retired”! She did complain of random warning lights on the dash a week or two back.  It is a VAG product after all.  She even managed to photograph one of them. That was the bulb checker telling her a brake light is out. The other was the traction control light. They kept coming and going, never on at home. Brake lights all appeared to work whenever tested. In the end I removed the LH light cluster and changed the bulb anyway. It was working at the time but did look odd where the filament joined the post. Also scanned for codes which turned up “brake pressure transducer 1/2 implausible value”.  I just reset that….. No more warning lights…… Apparently failed bulbs can trigger phantom warnings in ABS/traction control systems….
