      Those who know me know I'm an aviator at heart. Pretty sure this isn't the type of conveyance Dave envisioned when he created this site.   None the less this is my latest vehicle.  11 Year old Sonex OneX with an Aerovee 178 hour old VeeDub aero spec engine. Should be home to my local airfield in a week or two, and I'll be off into the skies in an experimental aircraft once again. The engine has bee breathed on by a local VW performance workshop so that it can sustain pretty much unlimited inverted flight, and the airframe can handle +6/-3G.  It even has a smoke generator t mark your territory in the sky. Should be a lot of fun...

      Hello             Your lucky day the woodwork vice is a good one as well I agree with John Lathe First but at least a 5inch swing  I did not go for old English as I have a very large one of those but a Chink one! Its this one but not variable speed (belt change) I have never had variable speed one and seemed to have managed very well!       On Land Rovers I found this tremendously useful, but too big for smaller stuff like Triumphs (but it is SUPERB for Triumph manifold nuts) I have half a memory of at one time having a VERY thin walled ring spanner that would fit one of the prop/driveshaft bolts/nuts on the Spitfire, but either I hallucinated it or I've lost that spanner years ago.

      Well, one vice collected. I've dismantled it, everything seems to be in order and in reasonable condition, dubious paint job aside. Looks like I'll need to retap/repair one set of threads for the front jaw, yet to tackle the rear jaw. But only the two tack welds as thought, so I'm hopeful. However, in the good news camp, the guy had another vice sat at his front door which was offered free of charge. Said it was a touch rusty as it has been sat in his garden for a while, but otherwise was mine if I wanted. So obviously I said yes! Turns out to be a Record No 52E, which is an under the bench woodworking vice. Looks pretty decent, so that'll also be cleaned up and mounted (once I have modified my new bench so that it will fit). So all in all, a good day's haul I reckon. The 52E sells for close to what I paid for the 25, so I'm calling it a bargain 😁

      Not in my experience. My set-up is just the standard twin HS4 in terms of carburation and a mechanical distributor with  the points replacement electronics module, no vac advance and rebuilt to suit the engine by H&H. Driving it the engine feels like it's "on song" above 3k, but as you can see from the dyno there's no shortage of torque even from lower down. Power is fairly linear across the usable rev. range.  I wouldn't want to do anything more and spoil the "pootling" driving experience.  Built to look fairly standard on the outside apart from the pancake filters:

      I'm not here as much as I used to be, but I wanted to thank the members who've dipped into their pockets and kept us running for the last 6 months.   Hosting isn't free, software maintenance ditto.  We continue to run through the donations members choose to make.  Thankyou to everyone who continues to kick into the kitty.  C.
