    • Uncovering some bodges whilst trying to get on with the big job of breaking up all the screed on our ground floor (that's a story for another day). When built, our house had a "picture window" starting at floor height. At some point this was bricked up, outer leaf of the wall looks fine and is tied in nicely and well matched. However, inside has some parallel cracks in the plaster in line with the window. Whilst breaking up the screed I found out why, maybe difficult to see in my photo, but they've just built the wall straight on top of the parquet and very soft screed. Not entirely sure why they bothered with the DPC given this setup. Granted its only 1m of wall and doesn't hold anything up... I've not actually broken off enough of the plaster and render to see if it's tied in, but I'm guessing not given the parallel cracks. I can''t decide if its worth trying to tie it in, then chisel out underneath it and underpin it with some semi-dry concrete on to the slab, or knock it down and learn how to be a bricklayer...
    • Good progress for Mon/Tue .
    • Yes, at first I replaced all the "buttons" and cleaned the old spring. That was better, but only for a short time. Within weeks it was back to before. So I replaced the sprint - it's on Owen Spring from Canleys - quality is good - but ride was too high and that affected camber.
    • Did you have to replace it, because the rear of the Spit sat too low? The current Heritage reproductions are said to come with too much pre-tension,( too arched). That's why people have to fit the spacer to make it sit correctly. Rumors are, that the idea behind was to make a one spring fits 4 and 6 cyl. models. I will check all fixations as you mentioned, prior seeking for a rare GT6 swing spring...
    • Can't comment on the GT6 mk3 spring - my car had the original 1500 spring and then when I replaced that with a 1500 spring I had trouble with camber and ride height - had to fit a 3/4" lowering block to get it how I wanted it.  ok, that's good. And the arm brackets? no signs of movement in/out? Threads/nut look tight/solid?
    • ok, thanks. The bodywork is very sturdy. The car hasn't seen much rain. I forgot to mention the spit has as well a 3/4" aluminum block under the spring (+ TT springs with spacers at he front...) I heard from a Belgian Triumph small chassis recycler, that the later GT6 mk3 swing spring would be good upgrade for the Spit as well.  He has one on his Spit mk3. Is that transformation common in the UK?
    • It's unlikely to be the issue unless they are totally soft/rotten, but I would check by supporting the car under the chassis with the rear wheels "drooping" and us a pry bar to try moving the diff up/down and left/right. If it has significant movement - further investigation required! Another thing to check would be if the bodywork where the radius arms attach isn't flexing.
    • ...........do two tyres at the same time and get under and do an oil change as well   Roger
    • Those contacts look rough enough to cause problems and the copper ring on the solenoid shuttle. That should hold it for a while and now you know what the bits look like the repair kits are available at reasonable cost
