    • Cheers sir. Very kind of you and the offer is very much appreciated. I am however hoping that having got the first one evetually sorted, no.2 will be essentially a repeat. Difficult to be absolutely certain until I can get the two halves joined up but I think I have the rear part of the tube, the bit that goes over the wheelarch about right. It seems to fit the curve and ends up pointing in about the right direction for the pivot - if the bit of bonnet panel wasn't in the bloody way! Time will tell. I have started some GRP tonight, gelcoat anyway, on the original mould to make a new pattern I can modify slightly to give me a bit more wiggle room. And with the existing one cut out in prep I should be able to line up the hinge tube bits and chek the fit of my modified pattern before committing to a final mould and yet more carbon! Meanwhile tomorrow I am back in the timing box at the velodrome for a youth event.

    • Yeah….. been playing this game with MkIV  tubes. Which are very wiggly things. We have a set from the car, which have suffered a significant trauma and another unknown set. Comparing them off the car seems more or less impossible without a fairly elaborate jig…. Comparing them on the car produces similar results and suggests they (rather remarkably) are not bent.  Something is…. My arms are pretty long by human standards but I’m not that keen on lifting bonnets on and off…..  
    • I don’t have long arms at all but it’s actually not hard to have one hand under each arch and lift off and mine must be that much heavier than yours . I am looking to take a picnic blanket in the back on the road to place the bonnet or hood or boot on if needed . So much simpler and lighter .
    • Quite... Ha! unfortunately not. Just these two, both of which show signs of a hard life. The nearest I have is a single slightly tired Mk3 version. Which can't fit on the Mk1 for a check because the hole in the grille is too small. All it tells me is that I had three bonnet tubes, with three different sets of curves and angles . All I can determine is that the very front of both Mk1 tubes appear to be pretty close mirror images of one another. Which I guess is a start. It's after that things start to go awry. It's just that there's nowhere to easily grip the bloody thing on your own. If my arms were maybe six inches longer it would be feasible, but that's perhaps a modification too far 
    • Considering how light it must be on its own I think I would have just pinned it . Easy to lift off on your own . But then , you love a challenge . Dusk saying . 
    • That’s upsetting  The old tolerance stack waiting patiently to bite a big juicy chunk out of you…. I don’t love bonnet tubes….  Bloody awkward things - have you ever tried checking them to try to tell if they are the intended shape (by comparison with known good for example)?
    • Few laps of CC at your usual full-attack mode?  In the interests of science obviously…… What could possibly go wrong? Maybe the engine will provide you with an additional inspection port  No other symptoms? No starting on 3 cylinders, no smoke, no heavy breathing?  You say it’s a bit noisy - what kind of noise?
