    • Seems so. My 14 year old Hotpoint dishwasher has decided not to open the soap dispenser any more. Have to ad.it that it has been pretty reliable. Only previous issue was the door latch giving up latching. A cheap if annoying fix with a new latch.

    • All excellent news John! You are getting there!
    • A bit of an update and all very good news, starting with the DVLA, a bit surprising because good news and DVLA rarely feature in the same sentence but not this time. I bit the bullet and finding a direct line telephone number rang up the Kit Car and Rebuilds section and immediately spoke to an actual person, no recorded message or menu, a real person who turned out to be helpful and encouraging. The upshot of the conversation was that the car could retain the identity and registration number of the donor Reliant Kitten and that an IVA wouldn't be necessary. They require a completed form V627/3, build up photographs, the V5C an MOT certificate and a photograph of the VIN plate. Very good news and quite a relief. A case number has been allocated to the build and also a case officer to whom I have spoken, a different person from the one who took my initial enquiry. It does look as if our optimism in the relaxation of the rules has been well placed. Back to the build, I've been concentrating on reducing the sheer bulk of the Fiesta wiring loom that i decided to use, partly because I had it and it was free, but also because of the protection afforded by the comprehensive fuses and relays, a far cry from the two or three high amperage fuses fitted to cars of the 60s. Having brought the loom under partial control at least, I set about isolating the cables I need, including dash illumination, earths, 12 volt ignition and so on and putting them in the correct postions for wiring up to the dashboard. For ease of removal, I'm fitting multi-pin plugs and sockets to the panels which adds time to the job but makes removal and refitting an absolute breeze without the necessity of fitting the individual spade terminals to each component. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the heated screen circuits to work because of a missing input from the alternator which I couldn't understand so I started from scratch and moved into the realms of maxi fuses and 80 amp circuit breakers. The front screen is divided into two zones each rated at 30 amps and the rear screen is 20 amps so, quite a drain when they are both switched on. Wiring the Vintage Air and Dakota Digital units was an absolute breeze because of the clear instructions and so many plugs and sockets. No soldering needed. I have function checked it and it works. I have trial fitted the dashboard and fortunately, it still fits, just being very close to the aluminium door seal flange. I'm pretty close to fitting it for good with just one panel to wire. Tachometer and electronic speedometer are in place and I'm delighted with the appearance. So, some really good progress but it needs to be sustained for any chance that the car will be ready for the trip to Brittany early in May. A few photographs follow. Thank you for reading
    • You are probably correct, it would explain why it doesnt do anything. The USB C connection, 5V is boosted but only to 9V wonder if needs to be higher at least 14.8v to charge the battery. It does have a couple of inductors in the cct so might be worth exploring.....
    • Better experience with them yesterday. Got through fairly quickly and the lady on the other end was fairly helpful. Started off by trying to tell me that the switching delay “is quite typical and normal sir”. Um, really? Then how come my old one (which this one is meant to be and improvement of), was much better… We did go on to discuss accumulator charge pressures and she advised me to increase it. So I did. It’s better though perhaps still not quite as quick as the original. Ref your battery pack Mike, I’m with RR on that.  Likely something in the power supply/power switching area. Probably a capacitor
    • Check the supplies first, then decide if it's worth the agro.
