final event of the year was a wet Castle Combe  that I wasn’t doing. That sadly claimed a fellow racers TR4 wiping out the whole of the drivers side at quarry.

It was the best 6 events to count  Len and I were joint 1st with 6 wins but on count back of other events len had more wins,  he had done 11 events and larry had done 13  vs my 7 events.

From the email notification today.

So the results are below and congratulations to all winners, especially Len Olds for once again showing us how its done.

That's motor racing!

Smaller circuits are worse and so are the earth banks many have to catch errant cars.  Armco not much better.

Was that sprinting at Castle Combe?    The number points to a shared car.

I was at Barbon one year when a Mini, shared by two people, came off.  The announcer said that HE will have a word or two to say to HER about that.    Ten minutes later, he was on the speakers again to apologise, saying that he had a VERY angry couple in his caravan.  It was HE who had come off!

It was a shared drive father and son and I believe father, owner and bill payer was driving.

trouble with the faster circuits especially in the wet is once you are off you are a passenger - at speed.

the smaller circuits tend to be slower on the bends.

i think there is a video of larry spinning in his V8 on the same corner at this event on Facebook - which I don’t do.

That’s a pity. Quarry at CC is a bit of a beast. It’s more usual though to hit the passenger side as it’s a right-hander! I guess the tyre wall interrupted a spin….

Have had one or two “moments” there over the years, most notable one being when riding shotgun with no2 son who had gradually been ratcheting his speed up through a session to the point where he’d stopped braking before Avon rise (arrival speed 105 ish), just lifting, which leaves a lot of braking to do in a short distance. He got it sideways because still under braking when turning in , but happily got off the brakes and onto the throttle and had enough road left to drift it round. Got a  rap on the helmet for that one.

The quote (with huge grin!) was “just like PlayStation”. Yeah, right. Except the reset button…..

Still, as it was PlayStation that taught him to how to recover it, I suppose it did its job!

Well driven Hamish, must be very satisfying - hats off to you.

Quarry at Combe is a bit hairy even in a fairly standard Spitfire - I span there last year after hitting a patch of something left by a smokey TR6. And this year was right behind another mk3 Spit which span onto the grass.

This video from the CSCC weekend this year illustrates the peril quite well. The midget at 3:20 in particular

Took me a couple of goes to understand how that orange SEAT managed to flip itself. But basically front wheel dribe and just drove up the side of the broken Renault.

Watching that lot I think I prefer racing on the velodrome. Even with this..

Thought I’d round this off as we had our awards dinner at the weekend.
i have brought the greased weasel home for another year with a 2.35 sec for the 64ft. And I claim the fastest accelerating triumph in the championship

together with a nice glass tankard for joint first relegated to 2nd overall on count back. I did 7 events and won 6 Len the champ did (I think) 12 events and won 9.

a good but predominantly wet year.

Very well done.  I do particularly admire the Greased Weasel.  Not so much the trophy itself but that you have it and not any of the lairy monsters. Clearly you have found the sweet-spot combination of weight, power, gearing, grip and driver talent.  :goodjob::banana::bow:

Len should be grateful you didn't do more events I reckon!

Thanks guys.  It’s been fun sharing my adventures with you as I know I add nothing to the technical aspect of this great forum.

i do confess to liking the 0-64 ft award. Even more meaningful than 2nd OA to those in the know.

Well played Hamish.

Anyone can build or buy a monster.

Spec’ing and understanding what you’ve spec’d, and knowing how to unleash just the right amount of violence to get off the line faster than all the other (often more potentially expensive/violent players), without overcooking it is an art unto itself.

Congrats on knowing how to make just the right amount of very loud noise!
