    • You need good flux tho i used to have some that was like a tin of shoe polish that was my dad’s.    now it’s a modern plastic bottle with a clear liquid flux. Works well but I Couldn’t tell you what it actually is ??!!
    • Got my last twin 4' in the garage still to do. Was low priority on account of working ok and being awkward to reach. That has now changed as one of the tubes just went on the blink - literally.
    • Warranted is misspelled (warrented).
    • Tinmans solder comes in sticks and is better for 'tin bashing' than normal electrical stuff.  It stays like a paste over a wider temperature range so can be worked into a joint.  Electrical solder has a very narrow range between just melting and going so runny that it just rolls off  (the technical term is eutectic) - good for electrical work but difficult to keep it where you want it on sheet metal unless exactly horizontal.
    • Hello Nick                 I have some old bits of solder which does not seem to melt so quickly goodness knows where it came from I have collected so much stuff over my life!! It is about 1/4" wide and perhaps 1/4 of diameter sometimes I beat it thinner sometimes so it melts a bit easier? I have got a few sticks of what I suppose is lead loading stuff that I think I bough years ago thinking I was going to do some?? For me the secret is normal plumber blow torch and keep it moving and just play with to molten solder(not always  that easy but doable if careful and satisfying not to mention Cheap I am like you I like to do as much stuff in house that I can even if it takes hours(what else would I do with my time??) Roger ps counter sunk screws fitted now and 2 pieces of 1/8" thick strong rubber sheet glued to the rounded bits on the bottom of radiator(more Belt and Braces?)
    • Rant is in the right place that for sure good ol boy Rick
    • Roger Do you mean Rick's missive from Florida? I was amused by the scabs just visible on his knuckles in his profile picture. Evidently, door thresholds are a problem for him.
    • That was an interesting post - I didn't quite understand it.   Roger
    • Are you using standard plumbers solder Roger or something with a wider melting point? Local radiator repairer told me he uses something more like body solder as it’s easier to work with.
