JohnD Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 I seen two reports today of an innovative theft idea. Some spots a trailer carrying something worthwhile. Surreptitiously they apply the handbrake, AND tape a mobile phone underneath. The plan is that the brakes will.burn out, and the trailer will be left in a layby/ car park while the owner seeks help/ new brake shoes. Meanwhile the scumbags know where the trailer is from the tapef-on mobile, arrive with a tow vehicle and are gone with the trailer in minutes, the gods know where. If only such ingenuity were applied to better purposes! John
SpitfireBGT Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Technology has made it easier to be a crook. In the old days here in the USA we just pulled a gun and took your stuff. Hey wait we still do that......... 2
mpbarrett Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Is this what happened at a recent UK classic race meeting? Think I saw something on FB about it.
Escadrille Ecosse Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Mind you. Having identifed said scumbag activity you could have a bit of fun with it.
JohnD Posted May 23, 2023 Author Posted May 23, 2023 (edited) What's in your mind, Colin? Take the mobile and stick to their vehicle? That would present a few difficulties, not least of being done over! Edited May 23, 2023 by JohnD

So if I'd been to an event at Castle Combe then it would be leaving it in a layby at Beatock. Like a version of spending 20 minutes talking to the cold caller trying to sell you a conservatory before revealing that you live in a second floor flat.

mossmonaco Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 my favourite could callers are the ones that phone to try to sell me cheap phone call packages- I tell them that I don't have a phone. If I'm really lucky they try to argue with me.
JohnD Posted May 24, 2023 Author Posted May 24, 2023 It is a phone they tag you with, so call them up? "This is the Police/ DVLA/ HMRT/ Microsoft etcetc"?

AndyM Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 I usually ask who they wanted to speak to. Then ask them why they called Leicestershire Police fraud line.
