@Escadrille Ecosse I work long nightshifts week on/week off so have a somewhat haphazard routine for following threads, to remedy this I have just caught up on the last year of your project all in one go and this have left me rather lost for words and in absolute awe of the results and effort you are putting in Colin. Having hurt a hamstring at work some 11 months ago I have made no progress on my Dolomite Sprint for the last year. Haven't been cycling either but as it is my birthday on Monday I will go out then for a wee while. As for the Sprint? I am in a bit of a catch 22, the job I do is poorly paid (and very tiring) so I am having to do other work on my week off which then deprives me of time.... oh, what to do? thanks, Ian

Beer plays with my vision too. Ugly women look stunning, muscle bound guys look skinny. It's a hell of a thing, but I ain't stopping. -

Sadly not, I had a feeling I was going to have this issue but it was one of those late night cheap purchases! It must be an old moss or tt one, haven't seen any mild steel ones for years. It's the 621 type that doesn't have the branches overlapping i think the new ss ones have them overlapping in the middle and having the downpipes finish side by side? Mine finish on top of one another, I'll try and snap a photo of the underside of the car. It's awkward as one of the downpipes is about 3* shorter than the other.

Take it the manifold didn't come with the Y piece. What manifold is it (apologies I couldn't find it in the thread) and which bit of the 'Y' can't you get to fit? I have had similar and had to modify one by lengthening the tail of the 'Y'. -
Looking out of a window of the ‘Samuel Palmer ‘ in Shoreham , Kent , I was confused looking at what should have been our BMW . but what are the rear red lights ??? quickly realised on moving my head that they were a reflection of of the LEDs around the top of the bar !

Fuel pump. I fitted a used Golf mkIV fuel pump (built in swirl pot, cost £10 delivered 10 years ago) into the tank, I was lucky, my friend had access to equipment to clean a tank and braze a plate onto the tank back then. Saying that, I have seen "split rings" that may work though the tank seam makes things awkward. The golf pump will run the tank just about dry (reckon I have been down to 1/2 gallon or possibly less) and is a decent bit of kit.

So a little ish update! I've been hard at trying to find some time in the evenings to get more bits done! We're nearly there! High torque powerlite starter fitted, and moment of truth, turned her over, gently, boom, oil presure rising on the mech gauge and light out in a second! Spot on! I ditched the castrol oil and only really use valvoline vr1 20w 50, good stuff! Repeated it a few times and left it for a while. I also compression tested the engine and all are perfect! I've got a good feeling! Anyway the last few bits need sorting now, which I'm just trying to get right to avoid chucking un-necessary money into this pit And it's not visible, but I did add an extra heat shield between the manifold downpipe and the starter, they're very close! My new radiator is on order and should be here in a week. The carbs are set from a rebuild setting, I need to decide on a needle and spring. Springs lots of threads from research with similar hs6 setups suggest red. Needles is just going to have to be a starting point, Bae might be best, that's what tt manual recommends. Air filter I'm just going to bang a pipercorss or itg filter on it and try and do somthing with a cold air feed from the front to shove it some air. Don't have the patience to make a box, but yet to be decided! Tracking needs setting and bonnet needs some touch up paint, rocker cover needs some thought as it's don't like it just painted the car colour, I'd like to put some details on it. The only thing I am missing which isn't really somthing I can make is the y piece that joins the downpipes from the 6 2 1 to the exhaust. Nothing off the shelf will fit, believe me I've measured and scoured ebay and more. Nothing. So if anyone has one on the odd chance they'd sell, that would be fantastic. Anyway, the end is near, I'll get some jerry cans of v power in the next week or so and hopefully finish up the last few bits. Target is before the end of April, everything done and running perfectly. Jacob

you are welcome to come round and have a look. You know where I am! Here is my home made manifold the silicon hoses tend to get discoloured Plenum is made from a piece of extruded ali and machined to fit the ITB. It could be bigger but it works and holds the ITB so that if I unbolt them from the inlet manifold from the engine everything is held in alignment. The blue pipes go into a idle control valve from a Fiesta, it takes air from the bottom of the plenum chamber. As the ITB's are a bit big for the engine I made a snail cam for the throttle to make it a big more progressive at low throttle openings. The inlet manifold would not fit with the tubular exhaust, they hit the top of the pipes so I machined some wedges between the engine and inlet manifold to angle the manifold up slightly. The plan was to try it and then machine the manifold but it works and does not leak so have left it alone! Cheated with the pump and brought one of these HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP / SWIRL POT - Classic Carbs UK but didnt cost that much in 2018! Its fed by a separate displacement pump and draws fuel from a new fitting I made into drain plug at the bottom of the Vitesse tank. A new pipe takes the fuel to the engine mounted regulator and the return goes thru the original pipework. fuel regulator mounted on bracket on heater box and should have a connection to the inlet manifold to correct for inlet manifold pressure. Red ign leads are feed from a Ford wasted spark unit. Added a new sensor for the water temperature in the water pump body and use it for the car temperature gauge and used the original one for the Megasquirt. All looking a bit grubby but it was done in 2018, 7 years ago. Mike
