toofast2race
Ok - I'll consider myself told! ;D Duplex chain! Anyone solved the "new tensioners made from corned beef tins" problem? Nick Well apart from finding NOS (always worth ringing round the more reputable suppliers - Witor normally offers a choice of original and repro) The originals are hardly ever badly worn after a gazillion miles so why not just refit the old one? Nick Jones
No objection to re-using old stuff - in fact prefer if it's in decent shape Just that I've never had a 2.5 so don't have any of the parts "in stock". No doubt I can find some. Mr Witor is quite nearby Nick
JohnD
"Tension springs from baked bean tins", Nick. Did it wear through, or break from lack of (or too much) temper? John
GHR630
I am currently building a 2 litre engine to pretty much this spec using a good block and brand new crank as my basis. it was intended to be my spare engine, but if anyone wants to negotiate terms, i could produce it to a custom spec complete with photographic record of the build? It's on my engine stand right now. On the manifold subject. I am currently doing a feasibility study into reproducing the "Mike the Pipe" style of manifold. All I need is examples for production (pretty much sorted), prospective customers and a manufacturer. I am serious about this if there is enough interest. We intend to offer two versions Saloon/TR and Vitesse/GT6 if that is feasible. The objective is to produce a manifold that is less compromised than the current crop but still affordable. Let me know what you all think. Could be that Busted Knuckle racing goes into business!

I just keep hoping he will decide to design a 4 pot one... May be hoping for a while though heh! He's done a proto back box / system for Spits/GT6 already, didn't have a price when I got the picture, was dependent on how many he'd be able to make, circa £700 I think. See below. Mother Teresa
George- I could well be interested in a new system in the future . I only have a Phoenix 6-3-1 at present.
Nick Jones
Not personal experience but someone I know replaced a Spit timing chain (which was WELL stretched) with a kit from a well known "specialist" including new tensioner. After less than 5k it was noisier than ever - which turned out to be the new tensioner worn through to holes and falling apart He managed to find a used one among his parts collection and fitted that and it's been ok since then...... Hence the corned beef tin remark : Nick

Hence the corned beef tin remark : Nick I bought a new County tensioner for the engine I'm building at the moment - don't think I'll bother fitting it as the one thats in there at the moment is showing very little wear after 40K(ish) miles. JohnD
Ah, so, Nick! Just a thought - has anyone cut a piece of Teflon and rivetted it to the tensioner? Should make for a quieter timing chain, and less wear on either. John
Nick Jones
Thanks for that link Tim - not seen that one before. Interesting idea on the teflon John - though I've not had any issues with the standard tensioner - just a matter of getting one properly made from the right material. Guest
I'd have thought PTFE would be easier to get hold of than Teflon.

Nick Jones
Just a small warning for those hunting vandervell VP2s. There was time, after Glacier bought VDV when they continued to use the VDV name but put their nasty sintered aluminium efforts in the boxes. Therefore, just 'cos it appears in a nice VDV box, does not guarantee you will get VP2s. If it doesn't say VP2 on the back of the bearing - it isn't. Always worth asking the ebay seller specifically - they may lie, but it gives you something solid to complain about later. Concerning the links posted above, I did ask and was told that they are not Trimetal (VP2). Ted of TSI is definitely one of the good guys!
