    • My primary carer planned it... 🙄
    • Did you plan this….. or has it just occurred?    Just the distant thought of it is making my brain cringe….
    • I'm aiming for the oldest thread revival award. She's still here, tucked away in my garage. Came out today for a wash, and to turn over the engine. Still starts on the button.
    • Any one on here like puzzles?  The floor flagstones have arrived, 11 different sizes 🙄 and I need to plan out the floor area. 🤔
    • I’m sure you are all watching but just in case !
    • There's lucky! I had a second garage built, many years ago now, and applied for planning permission using good Welsh slate!    But the local Council said, all the houses around, and yours are roofed with Cumbrian slate, so they insisted on that.  Almost certainly - I didn't ask - from the Honister Slate Mines, they made the garage half again as expensive! Today the Mines are still extracting slate, and also have been developed into an underground and outdoor activity centre.    I'm keen for my grandkids to grow up a bit more so we can do the Via Ferrata ! • Dropped the exhaust and ran the engine, no rattle but it is rather loud. Took the manifold off again, checked visually for cracks and also with a small hammer, didn't find anything. Continuing on the theory that the noise is just the downpipe gasket failing to seal. I guess the reason for the downpipe gasket not sealing is obvious, I was optimistically  hoping it would seal okay... I'll take the manifold to a local engineering shop for resurfacing next week, I can clearly see it's not that flat any more. Also bought a NOS top end gasket set. No signs of leaking from the main manifold gasket. In the meantime, I tracked down another speedometer for it, took it apart and set the mileage reading to the same as the existing speedometer. Only to find that both have the same fault, stripped pinion gears. Managed to track down a company that makes replacements, for a ransom, so just waiting for that. Also fitted the new front plate since the original is falling apart, hopefully I can repair the original.
    • all depends whats wrong with the RT drives. On a mine the gears were damaged, I had to take the end caps out to get at the gears. On the one with the twisted input the speedo had nearly seized up and put a very high load on the RT drive.  On the one with the brass input shaft this is a friction fit to the drive so if the load goes up it will slip. Obviously the answer is to make sure the cable and speedo is not causing too much torque on the drives..... Basically the RT drive are quite weak and dont have any thrust bearing so if the torque goes up then the load on the gears increases and the gear shaft is forced into the end cap of the device. As there is no thrust bearing everything jams up. I heard from a friend at the last TSSC meet that TRGB have some good quality reengineered ones that are much better but more expensive. mike
    • Yeah, that's what is on mine now. Bizarrely, I have a fair quantity of Scottish slate sat down the back by the wood shed, we think it was removed from old sheds that were demolished and I uncovered them whilst clearing for the poly tunnel.
    • Yeah….. he takes good pics does Jim (Vitesse owner too!), but they are a little spendy. Best deal is to buy the lot.
