If procrastination was a University course, I'd have a Masters in Putting Things Off. In this case, it's the GT6's gearbox mounts. The Mk1 Supra-to-GT6 mounts were a bit of a bodge. So, over the last couple of months I've been working on Mk2. I made up a new design in cardboard and had it fabricated by a welding shop (my flat doesn't have a 15A outlet for my welder). The mounts aren't right though. I've struggled with them, but without a hoist or welder I'm trying to make a silk purse out of Ms Piggy. I walk away and do something else, come back to it a couple of weeks later, and spend a few hours trying to make a bad thing good. I just spent an incredibly sweaty afternoon in the garage (wet season in the tropics) trying to get the new brackets to fit. Crawled around with a torch and mirror. Slipped over in a puddle of sweat. Tried to get bits that weren't made right to bolt up. Removed the brackets and cut out a gusset, crawled back into the car and tried again to make something the wrong shape fit. And like always, after a few hours I gave up and had a shower. Not good enough, dammit! Okay, enough wingeing. There's a car restorer and modifier in town. He's got a waiting list and is expensive, but I'll ring on Monday and book it in for whenever. He'll be able to do it properly. In the meantime I'll push on with the radiator mounts. Oh, yes, the procrastination. I haven't just sat around for the last two months sulking, watching the rain and steaming roads. My computer's old Bose sound system died, so I built a kitset valve amplifier. And speaker cabinets. And a Nixie clock. Procrastination par excellence!

Theatre performance was peculiar. Musical interpretation of Alice in Wonderland. Aided and inspired by many magic mushrooms by on top of whatever Carroll himself was on in the first place. Did quite enjoy the music somewhat reminiscent of earlier Pink Floyd. nothing to do with the performance but also somewhat peculiar. Small elephant dressed in beautifully wound rope -

Looks it! We had sunshine yesterday but a rather cold bite to wind. At least the weather allowed me to switch off the Aga for it's annual service. Burner moderately coked, the additive seems to be working. Been making a new dent on the caked on oil/grease on the top, combination of a scraper and the pressure washer has it looking better than it ever has in my ownership. Still more work to be done, but that's for next time. -

We were due to go to the theatre in Bridport last night. It was a a pleasantly warm afternoon, so I cleared all the junk that had piled up around and on top of the Vitesse, pumped up the tyres, checked fluids and lowered the hood. Fired on the 3rd compression stroke and took us to West Bay for fish & chips before backtracking a little to Bridport -
Forgot about the heater core, Thanks! I have a spare heater from a 78 Spit, will take a look to see if it has an aluminum or copper core. If heater core is copper, I may just leave it in for the flushing. Already planned on using a sacrificial radiator for the flushing!

You can even stick weld most grades of stainless, the biggest cause for issues with it is contamination so I follow the same protocols I do for aluminium. If your using co2 as your purge gas I find some dry ice inside the part and some tin foil over the ends works a treat as it gives a constant gas co2 supply as it heats up whilst being very very cheap. -
This is useful info Nick thank you I have yet to buy any argon co2 mix gas, I could save myself 15 quid and just use the co2, got plenty of that The thing is, I really, really, really hate rust I'll give it a go when the bits arrive.

You can weld SS with standard steel wire and CO2. Obviously argoshield and SS wire will provide a more corrosion resistant result, but all of my SS exhaust welding over many yess as rs has been done with steel wire including some on the Vitesse which is 20+ years old and itโs holding up just fine!
