That’s a no then…… at least it had the grace to fail while winding down at the end of the final spin cycle. Can’t really grumble about the timing. Failed to make 20 years…… I have ordered a new belt and am taking the opportunity to fit the new door seal I’ve had for some time. The old one……. Is fairly unattractive! -
If the council are anything like round here, they would let him clear it, then sue him for damaging the road in the process of clearing it. Too much red tape these days, pesky bureaucrats

Hello David These are to details of Spittys alternator fixings. The first thing I noticed is your Herald has a different mounting bracket as it was a dynamo? Looking at the parts book I do not think it would be strong enough if you just used the front hole of the bracket? As you can see the Spitfire one bolts up to the front engine plate. So unless you have a spacer between the 2 ends of the bracket it is liable to tilt/move? If you can obtain a Spitfire bracket it would be better I think? The plate at the water pump end is a piece of 3/4" x 1/4" steel with holes 1" apart(I threaded the one 8mm) The adjuster centre piece is 70mm long with left and righthand threads 8mm. The Space is 25mm dia x 33mm long with a locating bit on the front that is 0.530" to suit the hole in the engine plate that I may have enlarged to give a better location? The bolt is 10mm x 120mm I assume I opened up the bracket hole to 10mm to suit the Alternator size? The vee belt I use is SPZ1087 but you water pump and crank pulleys may be a different diameter so a different belt would be needed Roger ps I hope this helps pps I fitted the new one to make sure it works and will leave it on and keep the old one as a spare! -
Nick Sounds hopeful....I sure fingers are crossed all over 'sideways land'. Did you have to adjust float levels?
