    • All sorts of canals that would never be reinstated have and are being by all sorts of organisations and people all over the UK right now. The Bridgwater Canal is not owned or operated by the Canal Trust or British Waterways and never has been. And may I politely suggest that discussion of the  'inevitable abandonment' doesn't belong in this thread which is more about life affirming, fun and/or educational stuff. Which is why I like it. Plenty of other places for doom and gloom threads on here.
    • one of the problems is the canal trust is under funded and has been asking for crowd funding to remove dead trees from the canals.
    • re burnt out pin, thats nasty and impressive! Might be worth metering the circuit board to check that the tracks arent damaged. Do you have a cct diagram for the board? I assume there is a driver between the Mega processor and the output drive? Worth checking the drive signal with the scope (BTW nice Tek scope) from the Mega output thru to the coil to  check you have a good signal and some component  hasnt  died.
    • Hello All               I am glad I paid the extra for Microsquirt and that was enough of a learning curve but touch wood has been perfect since the odd cock up in wiring and settings Its not perfect but that may be me fiddling with maps and I must ask Nick and (bugger forgot your name but late Saturday night and Vino has taken hold sorry what they set theirs to for the alps etc) You are showing me things that I do not understand now but i am a lot older now!! Still Spain booked for June (in Spitty) and a short break in Malta in March booked and we are seriously thinking of a second trip to Spain in September(in Spitty of course) as the Grim Reaper is getting ever closer the big 80 this year!! I know I am very lucky compared to some of you on here as we do not have any Health problems other than older and slower but no medications other than Memsahib on statins (low dose) so i except Very Lucky(does not stop me moaning about the cold etc!(Plus would be in Spain for the winter if the Memsahib would let me) Roger
    • Back to Earth and the Bridgewater Canal collapse.   Two residents on the canal have been posting reports and their latest includes their account of a meeting for those with an interest in the disaster.  They report that the canal community was told of plans for securing the rest of the canal, and moving their boats away from danger, but when asked if the Canal would be reconstructed, there was no answer!
    • That burned pin is likely significant! Hard to believe it hasn’t also fried some of circuit behind it…. Have some concerns about the smart coil also. Might be possible to test that though?
    • Not sure it's the eurika moment, but progress has been made.  Firstly we discuvered that I didn't correctly earth the smartcoil at some point and have burned out the pin where the earth to this unit connects to the speeduino. Secondly we've confirmed the VR conditioner is good and gives an excelent signal - scope image shows jimstim output at the top, and the conditioned vr signal to the arduino on the bottom. Thirdly we know that the arduino is not outputting anythign approaching a sensible spark signal.  IGN1 is irratic, and IGN2 is non existant.  This might be caused by the large earth spike, but dad seems to think this unlikley, or it might be a hardware/firmware/software issue.  I've ordered a replacement arduino mega and will try again with that at a later date.  Hopefully I haven't fried the smartcoil too with the poor earthing issue. So one big error by me on the earthing, and some issues with the arduino, possibly caused by my large error... Progress will be slowed by this, but I'll keep the updates coming when it works!
    • As you are having problems even on the bench we probably can’t blame noise here…. Did you say you have tried reloading the firmware?   Good luck - awaiting the light-bulb moment with eager anticipation!
    • Yes, can't disagree at this stage when I'm wading through the uncertainty.  I'll admit I'd hoped this might be a nice example of how speeduino had improved and it was pretty simple now, but sadly not the case so far! Aware that trigger issues were a thing, I've got the vr conditioner plug in daughter board that's supposed to eliminate these issues!
