JohnD
I mean that bit of fibreboard, that mounts the instruments, in some models through a fancy bit of wood veneer. Over t'Pond, a lady in Los Angeles is restoring a Herald and her fibreboard has a seriously degraded! She's asked for help on the Triumph Experience website, but this item is "No Longer Available" from any dealer. Her correspondents on the TE site have heard of someone making a mould for GRP replacements. Has anyone heard of this, or can offer the lady any other help? Her's is LHD of course, so a spare surround from this side seems unlikely. If you have any suggestions, please go to https://www.triumphexp.com/forum/herald-and-vitesse-forum.23/dissolving-dashboard.1822504/ John (No connection, just wanting to promote Trans-Atlantic cooperation!) Escadrille Ecosse
John Wouldn't be that difficult to make it good enough to take a mould off it and make a replacement one in fibreglass and I am pretty sure someone will have done it. The Herld dash is fairly simple. But starting from scratch or trying to convert RHD to LHD is a bit more of an ask. I'm not a Triumph Exp member so can't post but there will be people in the US who can help. Suggest she speaks to a few restorers who do work on fibreglass, in the US that will be Corvettes, so should be at least some choice. Failing that if she is near the edges of the country then there will be folks who do boat work.
Nick Jones
That is one of the earliest ones, in TC form (additional gauges), without the padding and in LHD form. There are probably less than 100 left in the world in any condition and most of those will be in the USA. If Andy Mace doesn’t know where to find one….. After 70 odd years it’s unsurprising it’s past it’s best. I’m surprised there’s as much left as there is! FG is probably the long term answer. The basic shape of the cowl is the same for all I think, even the later, far more common padded ones so might be the answer to producing a mould. Otherwise, there is always that often forgotten diy material papier-mâché. A fair chunk of the Vitesse glove box is papier-mâché. A temporary fix from 1989……
JohnD
Looked again at the TE post and realised that the OP posted two years ago! Various suggestions from US contributors, mostly GRP, but nothing from the OP, so I think stand down the rescue squad! I fear that the project has been abandoned!
