  1. The only thing that worries me about all this is that aero aids to handling are, generally, the opposite to what is required for reduced fuel consumption, but then again I'm new to all this.
  2. Nick, Peter, (or any of the sideways denizens) plenty of room to stay here if you want to plan a trip down this way. I can also offer a well equipped shed should the need arise.
  3. I'm surprised no one has posted Victoria, Australia's "Great Ocean Road" as a great drive. It is, but it suffers from tourists and their driving antics, or rather, their lack of concentration on their driving. To my mind the best part of the GOR is the western end, nowhere near as many "Sunday drivers" and, mostly, a 100 kmh speed limit. The Western End, thanks Google Maps! It's the perfect day trip from where I am, going out on the northern route, a bite to eat at Apollo Bay, fish and chips on the foreshore, a quick nine holes if you fancy it and home on the southern route. My only problem, SWMBO gets a little nauseous with all the up, down and around so I drive it solo more often than not.
  4. Hi Matt, I've looked at those connectors and to my mind they're a bit lightweight. I'm going to use Deutsch connectors, expensive, but more substantial than most. I will be hunting around for the cheapest prices but this site gives you an idea of what's available. Plenty to be found on fleabay. http://www.ionnic.com/electrical/connectors/deutsch/kits.html
  5. 541 over the C V8 anyday but then again I like the Rover 3 litre....... I'll just get my coat.
  6. Red Spit blowing smoke? London on the 27th? No, sorry, you'll have to give us more information than that!
  7. Just as well the outriggers fit the bill. If they had been "inadequate" your week could have been classified as a complete write off. Hope your wife gets sorted soon, (Insert your preferred deity here, or not, as the case may be) bless the NHS, or not, as the case may be.
  8. Got an early Christmas present from The PRC today.... Just need to get the MGF flange hubs back from a local engineering shop and I can test them out.
  9. Agree, £4000+ is a bit rich. Nice looking kit though. No fiberglass!
  10. Nice idea, I'm about to put a Scooby diff into a cut down MX5 rear end (a similar approach to Jango's purpose built rear suspension) and attach that to the Spit chassis. It will use coilovers so I don't have to worry about bolting a transverse spring but knowing there's an alternative approach to attaching the diff may modify my plan. Guess you'd still have to add a diff breather to your "tin plate" but that shouldn't be too much of a problem. I'll need to think on the bushes for a bit. Cheers, J.
  11. Well, it's mine, everything went smoothly and we got the keys 30 days after signing the contract. Pics of the shed soon. I've heard it said that moving house is the second or third most stressful thing one may do, right after losing a spouse or speaking in public. I've lost SWMBO on a number of occasions, unfortunately she keeps finding me! After you've stood up in front of a few hundred first year uni students speaking in public is a doddle. Moving, therefore, is the absolute pits and IS the most stressful, annoying, and time-wasting thing any right-thinking person can do. Happy days.
  12. Never let it be said that a Spitfire is hard to park .........
  13. I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere that Triumph engineers designed the cars to, over time, develop deformable elements to absorb some of the energy of impacts. I'm almost positive it was the "Triumph Integrated iNhibitor With Optional cRumple Modules" or maybe it ended with Optimal Crash Mitigation
  14. I remember another show on Para training, my brother was somewhat dismissive of its relation to reality, same sort of reasoning behind toning that down too I suppose. Commando School is being broadcast here by a channel called SBS, I only just realised the connection. Cheers, J.
  15. They're showing Commando School on the idiot box over here. Can we expect to see a certain Judo player feature during the series?
  16. The clearing auction is in Dartmoor, west of me and getting close to the South Australian border (for those not in "the lucky country"), seems unlikely it was recently in Melbourne. I picked the 850 as the bargain buy, but being out in the sticks any of them could go cheaply. Used to drive a later 850 in Guernsey, nice car, but kept bags of cement in the front to balance it out a bit.
  17. Triumphs are hard enough, I can't imagine the trouble you have to go to to find replacement parts. There are a couple of other cars in the auction that may pose less of a challenge ..... or maybe not Think I'd have the 1950 Riley (3rd pic. below) and a "modern" but unfortunately it'll never be a classic.
  18. Quick update. I sent the drawing to three Chinese engineering firms specialising in brake rotors and prepared to do small runs. Prices range between US$20 to almost US$40 per rotor and shipping ranges from US$25 to US$30 per rotor delivered to my door. Approximately 10 days to produce and 4-7 days to get to me. The MX5 hub flange does not differ significantly from the MGF unit, I'll be getting a collar shrunk onto MGF hubs and machined down to fit the MX5 bearing and thus the upright. Progress!
