Keys....

Recommended Posts

My GT6 keys are rough. The ignition key is very rough.  Helpfully (not!) a PO has cut most of the tab off including any code that may have been there.

It is for the usual GT6 mk 3 / Spit IV / early Spit 1500 column lock. Presumably WASO. Single sided key, Fairly short.

If I knew the prefix letters I could get a blank and get it cut locally.....

 Any ideas?

My mum was once asked for the loan of her copy of the "Ford key" in Yeovil Tescos car park as the lady in the next space had locked her keys in her Escort.  The Cortina key opened it no bother.

I was once called down to the car deck on a cross channel ferry to see whether my Audi key (1987 Audi 90 at the time) would open the boot of the 1992 Audi 80 convertible parked in front of it as the owners had just shut their keys in the boot.  Somewhat to all our surprise it did...... they didn't know whether to be relieved or alarmed!  I wasn't allowed to check whether it fitted any other locks on their car.

My first car was a 1963 herald 1200 in about 1980. I needed a spare key so went to a local car spares shop. The owner new I had an old herald since I bought parts there. I said I needed a key and went to pass him the original. He stopped me with 'What year is it?" then "What color?" ....."Ahh" he said ...."FS913" (from memory) and passed me a correct key from the board.

I remember when we were at school a few of my friends had Metros, the keys on those were reasonably interchangeable i.e. with a bit of jiggling you could unlock and start other Metros without much effort (and then park them in a different street etc. and other such related high jinks) :)
