Well bad news regarding my CAM.

I run off from work to engineering place and grabbed the Ken Cam TH12 dropped it off home to my dad then we looking and I said it's wrong length.

6 or so inches too long (4cyl 8 lobes)

It's stamped TH12 which according to parts book is a spitfire high torque CAM.

So mix up at Kent Cams! Waiting for a call back so it can return for correct CAM. Bummer (eek)

Hi Martin,

You have got na nice car: cosmic wheels, alleybar ... 8) 8)

And now a good body with a lot of new panels...and a new engine :) :)

The kent th12 seems to be a nice camshaft for a road car. I hesitate in my choice: TH5, TH12 or a piper 270...  ::) ::)

I have post the same details on the threads concerning the pedestral shims:

the pedestral shims are available form piper:  you will have to look at the pdf catalog. The shims are listed at the end of the catalog.

I hope this help and good luck in the rebuilding job.

@ Dave, Oh yes it's red. I have a matching red spitfire and engine crane and socks! lol

@ Popeye, I just saw your reply. Thank you. I'll let my dad have a look. His check the valve clearance and came up with what Dave said. The valve are closed and rockers goes to the side and it locked etc. Thanks for the comments! It's things like that which help me get on with the tast ahead. When I started this I thought it would take only 2 months but 11 months later lol. Spitfire was really rusty before all the new panels went on.

I spent so many hours in the garage and 3 girlfriends later it's almost ready for painting LOL.

I picked the TH12 because of the torque from low down. The other cams all seem to want more revs and then you need to keep up there. I'm used to torque with my 480 turbo so knew what I wanted more of.

Here are a load of pictures while I'm waiting for my dad to come home so we can fit the engine.

You prob guess that it did not go in on Wednesday! My Dad ended up staying at work so I had a go but could not mate the engine and box. It was a little out at the bottom.

I came home yesterday and it's been fitted by dad in about 40mins!

The rad is now plumbed in. Exhaust is semi fitted and sounds just amazing!! (clap)

Fitted header tank from a volvo 400 series and made some custom mounts so it's above the rad. Check out how I fill the system with water. The washer bottle (was overflow) is mounted along with the EWP.

Still waiting for carbs :-(

Soz to be the bringer of bad news...The pipe going from the header tank to the block will overflow the header tank, why? Cause thats under pressure, will flow out of the fixing on the block and fill the header tank...it needs to under constant suction...So will need to be joined the pipe heading into the back of the water pump...

You need to re-route that. Looking good though.

Put the pipe from the top of the header tank to the top of the radiator or add a pipe into the thermostat housing cover and run that to the header tank...

AHHH! or do you fill the system via that pipe on the block drain? You should just be able to fill the header tank and it'll fill the system up anyways...it'll burp the air through the smaller pipe into the header tank etc.

That extra piece of pipe on the metal one under the carbs looks welded on, so maybe you adjusted it? Been ages since I had such stuff on mine  :)

I have started sorting out the loom. 1st I unwrap the nasty dirty loom and check it's OK. I then found a load of cable tidy at Maplin for £2.40 which makes everything look very tidy.

The body rub down for painting has also started!  :)
