Thomasmand Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 I need a new cam for my fastroad TR6, and after careful reading of Cam-threads on this forum, I have decided to buy a Newman one. But should I get the 30-70, 280 or the 40-80, 300 ? I want as much Ooomph as possible and favours the 300 but the car must be able to do occasionally town-traffic, so I don't want to overcam the engine. My setup will be: Slightly flowed head 10:1 Jaguar valvesprings Lucas PI 6-3-1 + bigbore exhaust Balanced bottom-end 1:3.7 diff Heard of the new GT cams, but I need the cam soon (summer is coming)(cool) By the way, can I buy the cam directly from Newman to (possibly?) save money, or do I need to buy through my local dealer? Are the standard Newman Chilled Iron Cam Followers any good? All suggestions will be very welcome Thomas
gt5r Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Thomas you want a cam with lift and short duration - 2.5 don't like long duration cams as you can't run decent compression ratio - so something around the 285/290 duration I'll pm a profile later that I think would do Back when Newman brought out the 40 - 80 as I recall it was one of their race cams not fast road you can buy direct - speak to Ken Newman Why not go for a TR5 - 35 65 profile but with a little more lift - used one on a road engine once on PI it worked quit well
Thomasmand Posted March 2, 2010 Author Posted March 2, 2010 Why not go for a TR5 - 35 65 profile but with a little more lift - used one on a road engine once on PI it worked quit well Thanks Mark, So Newman 40-80 cam is more a 2L profile then? How about the 30-70, is it more equal to the TR5? I know the TR5 cam already but would like a bit more topend power if possibly. /Thomas
