Nick B. Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Hi I have got myself a new alternator I need a connectorblock to get it hooked up. The connector did not come with the alternator. I need this kind: Which I have found in US http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/Santech-Toyota-oval-3-terminal-pigtail-for-Nippondenso/_/N-269a?itemIdentifier=930110&_requestid=1187489 Problem is - If I want this part I will have to pay tax at same price as part plus a 20 pounds handling fee. Does anyone know where in UK or europe I can find this part? I have tried demon tweeks without luck. Cheers Nick
GHR630 Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Try http://www.simtekuk.co.uk/www.simtekuk.co.uk/info.php?p=0&pno=0&cat=&search=denso&sought=
Nick B. Posted July 17, 2012 Author Posted July 17, 2012 Try http://www.simtekuk....ch=denso= Thanks George. Unfortunately out of stock - but there proved to be some usefull information on the site that improved my search. I came up with this, that might just do the trick http://www.automotivewiringsystems.com/27-999-.htm Cheers Nick
SpitmkIIICPH Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Hi Nick, where did you get the alternator ? How muchness? I am thinking best to ditch my Lucas before going megajolt....
Nick B. Posted July 17, 2012 Author Posted July 17, 2012 Alternator bought on ebay Price was 80 pounds - postage 25. Good idea to get rid of Lucas. It probably killed my megajolt . Though it was and indian copy. Cheers Nick
CHRIS211083 Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Ive got a canleys 55amp light weight alternator up for grabs. £80. Plus postage. Chris.
Nick B. Posted July 17, 2012 Author Posted July 17, 2012 I have been curious about CCs alternator. Which brand is it? And how much does it weigh? Cheers Nick
DaveNotSoSideways Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Originally they are Nippon-Denso, you won't find better quality. Dunno what Canley sell cause I got mine from ebay off a Kubota Digger, £20, same as Canley but I could see it was a genuine Denso not a rebuild or a recon but a new item so I brought that over the Canley one as I could quarantee it's authenticity. They are always on ebay they are fitted to numerous cars/diggers and machines.
DaveNotSoSideways Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Canleys will have the old/original connector block design/classic type this can be used with spade connectors. Mine had spade connections.
Nick B. Posted July 17, 2012 Author Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) Canleys block is for the old type without phase. I need an oval connectorblock. Mine has three spades in the connector plus a large M6 on the side They are marked P-IG-L I am still investigating how to wire them up, but it appears that L is going to ignition light, IG is going to ignitions switch and on to battery+(?). P is unused for Phase. And the M6 is straight to the battery pos terminal. I could add crimps to the I and IG spade terminals, but this would be a bodge. Must find the connectorblock. Cheers Nick Edited July 17, 2012 by Nick B.
DaveNotSoSideways Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 The IGN is for a connection directly to a ignition switched power source. The alternator needs to be "turned on" from the ignition. You can turn it off for drag racing The wiring is not quite a straight forward as it might appear, the light is wired oddly, but this is straight forward enough. Output straight to battery. P blank. Looks like the connector on some coilpacks. I bet that it's on many cars.
SpitmkIIICPH Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 £80 ????????????? that is to much for this here tight git !! I'll trawl the bay
Nick B. Posted July 17, 2012 Author Posted July 17, 2012 They are found on most toyotas I suppose. Find one with a proper grooved belt pulley 80 pounds are less expensive than a new MJ board! Cheers Nick
GHR630 Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Like Dave, I've got the ubiqutous Denso (A3?) type that comes handed I believe. At the time I bought mine, they were all over the 'bay at around £30 BNIB. I think at one time Maynards were selling for £50. I used Dave's primer on connecting. There's also much info on Westfield sites.
motov8id Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 (edited) There's an Auto zone in my neighborhood if you need someone to mail it to you or your welcome to the used one I installed in my MGB V8 today. Those alternators are so common in the breaker yards here. I put one on my GT6 and in my MGB and have one on the shelf. The B is a couple of months from hitting the road. Let me know. Sorry about the pic quality. Edited July 18, 2012 by motov8id

Sorry about the pic quality. Thanks for the kind offer. I might take you up on the autozone offer. I am working on a solution locally and waiting for an answer right now. Is your alternator one of the handed ones? In the pic it seems as thje upper point isn't connected? How do you adjust it? I have planned to adjust mine with a simple turnbuckle with rosejoints like this: I just need to make a mock-up and decide on the length of the turnbuckle Cheers Nick
Nick B. Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 Yep, I made a turnbuckle setup too. Hi George Electric waterpump? How have you attached the lower part of the alternator? Just on the standard bracket? Cheers Nick
GHR630 Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Yep EWP, got to my Photobucket site (link in my sig block) to see more pics. I used the normal alternator bracket with some spacers from the junk box, no sweat. It really was an easy mod. Had to make a dummy fan belt with cable ties then go down to Halfrauds and go thru the stock till I found one of the right size. Size is critical (for me) without the water pump as a third wheel. Two pulley means not much adjustment - no biggie>
motov8id Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 I have two different versions of the ND made alternator. One on my GT6 one on my MGB v8. A straight forward install. I had a bad experience with a broken bolt damaging my radiator when i installed an alternator on my Volvo Amazon, So I try to make a very rigid mount,
pomwah Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Four NipponDenso alternators up on Fleabay UK, octopusinnovations is flogging them. Out of MR2s, not a perfect fit but a little bit of fettling and a modified top mount/adjuster should see them do the job. Pictures of a "trial" fit up on my photobucket pages: http://s1069.photobucket.com/user/pom_wah/library/?sort=3&page=1, Cheers, James
