  1. Use Deves in the Clan engines with no problems. Ther'e generally in the region 60 - 70 a set so price for 6 cylinder seems fine. Pete Richards
  2. Set the timing as normal with a test lamp with the ignitor. Pete Richards
  3. I've had no problems with using a single carb balancer on twin Webers. I've also had good results with just a piece of rubber pipe. No need to spend a fortune to get good results. Pete Richards
  4. Pump pressure definately too high. As 'the other tim' says 3-4 psi. I generally set a 3.5psi for my Webers. You also need to secure all of the pipes as the chokes etc will be moving Pete Richards
  5. How do you know they are moving freely? Seriously it's worth a gentle tap on the side of the carb body to free the float. Pete Richards
  6. Like the double ended carb adjuster resting on the tyre. Pete Richards
  7. I thing Fuel Gage would be better for the pub. Or as he looks a friendly little fella how about Feeler Gage. Pete Richards
  8. George, I tried the Hedtec helmets at the Autosport show and was impressed by the fit and finish. I'm interested in the full face with the Hans posts as it looks like that will shortly be another expense. Pete Richards
  9. I have a friend who used a PDA to calibrate the megasquirt that runs the ignition and injection fitted to his hillclimb car. He also has it permanently connected and uses it as a datalogger. Pete Richards
  10. You need to ascertain the ownership of the sewers and most particularly their depth. When you have this information you will need to consult with them on their requirements with respect to building over the sewers. If they accept you building over them it's likely that you will need to place foundations below the level of the sewer so that no structural loads are placed on the sewer. If the sewer is deep then this could be a problem. Only yesterday I instigated a ground investigation on a site where a semi was going to be built over a sewer with an invert of 3.5m below existing gound level. The owner of the sewer was insisting that if the property was to be built with the sewer remaining in place then foundations would need to be installed below a depth of 3.5m. Unfortunately we found the ground to be very poor and consequently a piled foundation would be necessary with the depth to a suitable pile bearing horizon being at approximately 11m below existing ground level. In this instance it therefore looks that the alternative of diverting the sewer around the proposed building will prove more economical. The above example is probably an extreme case but it does show that what appears to be a simple problem can turn out to be complicated and expensive to overcome. One other point that you should consider is that whilst it is likely you will not require planning permission you will require building control approval. Its therefore likely that the sewer position will be picked up by the relevant authority and they will require detailed information on how the structure will be constructed taking into account the position of the sewers. 11. Are you using the choke? I had similar symptons when I tried to start recently fitted Dellortos as the Webers I was used to by just applying a couple of pumps of the throttle. Pete Richards
  12. Nko, If the rules allow it then I'd also suggest ditching the dizzy and going to a programmable 3D system. However, unlike the majority on this site I would not suggest using Megajolt. In my opinion, and based on experience, the range is insufficient for competition use. I have been using the Weber Alpha system on my racing Clan with success for a considerable number of years. When I first fitted it numerous potential users of Megajolt pointed out that as it had to be programmed by an authorized dealer I would not be able to modify it. My argument was that if it was done correctly to start with then modificaton would not be required. This has in fact turned out to be true and the original map has been used, and checked on the rolling road, following changes to the original engine specification. At the time affordable off the shelf 3D systems were limited and of those I chose the Weber Alpha. Nowadays the options are greater and less restrictive. Several of the Mini's I compete with in Germany use the van Kronenburg Manangement System (www.vankronenburg.nl) with good results. In the UK the Storm 3D Igniton Management System (www.specialist-components.co.uk) is getting good reviews and is available complete at what I consider a reasonable price. Another option is that produced by Canems (www.canems.co.uk) which was originally similar to the Megajolt but has been developed further for competition use. All these three systems provide the necessary software for programming. Pete Richards
  13. Merry Christmas to you all. All loaded up and ready for an early start tomorrow morning for Mallory Park. Could be trcky in practice. Pete Richards
  14. For the south east near Cambridge try Rollcentre at St Ives. Very helpful in my experience. Telephone 01480 464052 Contact - Stuart. Pete Richards
  15. George, I may not have a Triumph tank but I do have a 35+ year old Imp tank which suffers the same problem with silt and paint flaking off the inside. Pete Richards
  16. I use a Bendix Silver top pump and find that the integral filter within this followed by a filter king provides more than adequate filtration for the Clan. Pete Richards
  17. Steve, Can I suggest a cheaper method of restricting HP loss. Put the driver on a diet!!! Pete Richards
  18. Yes I can assure you all that they are hydraulic hose clamps. I've been using them for years. They come with a metal base plate and my biggest problem is fitting them to the fibreglass monocoque of the Clan. Pete Richards
  19. You should have checked out your local hydraulic hose specialist. That's all they are, hydraulic hose clamps. Available in a number of sizes and usually cheaper. Pete Richards
  20. Frederick, I use Car Builder Solutions regularly and their service is second to none. Pete Richards
  21. I wouldn't recommend the expanding foam from DIY stores. People have tried it and whilst it doe give additional stiffness it also holds water so accelerating rusting. Pete Richards
  22. What a small world. I know 2 of the entries in the Touring Class. Is there a list of cars being used as opposed to just the crews? Pete Richards
  23. Tough luck Steve but as we all know these things happen. As people used to say to me it's all character building. My reply I don't need any more character building! My guess is you'll throw any engine in and get out for the last race and enjoy it. Just make up for the lack of power with experience and driving skills. Pete Richards
  24. My flywheel became detached at Colmar Burg earlier this year at 9000+ rpm. Fortunately it stayed on the splines of the transaxle input shaft with no damage apart to the ciontered clutch plate that was jammed by the sheared bolts. Pete Richards
  25. Phil, Police called because we were stuck in the outside lane at peak time in what is the busiest road in Cambridgeshire with vehicles all around us. I also thought they might question the other drivers lack of attention. We were both breatherlised on the side of the road but were both negative. I did also wonder if she might have been using her mobile phone but the Police decided that once the traffic was sorted they were no longer interested. The good news is that I've already had a call from her insurers admitting liability and requesting they deal with the repairs and the provision of a replacement courtesy vehicle. Put them onto my insurers and I'm hoping for a speedy result although it looks allmost certain that the Alfa will be deemed a total loss. Pete Richards
