  1. Why do you fix the fuel lines both to the chassis and the tub? These cars have so much flex that I would worry about it. Why not just run the pipe in a stragt line following the chassis? Cheers Nick
  2. I am quite happy with my standard spit brakes (mintex1144) on my fast road spit. It is the tyres that is the limit here - not difficult to stop the wheels spinning (not that that as such stops the car..) I would not upgrade brakes before I was done upgrading tyres (and my tyres have a lot of upgrading potential). Be sure you have a braking problem before actually doing anything to the brakes. So - bottom line - plenty of grip in a pair of well sorted spit brakes. Cheers Nick
  3. Hi Glad you are off the hook. Haven't read the above, but it must have worked. Now back to triumphs. How is the rear-end doing? Cheers Nick
  4. Yes - I am attending a concert with him in november. It is most possible that Gerard will contribute and say he is just part aussie
  5. Then let us get this thread going again I have entered the frost cup It is 5 races on 25th november, 16 december, 6 january, 27 january and finally 3 march. I will start gently again with some spinning excersise and two or three running sessions per week. In a month or two my weekly training shopuld be just about 40 KM. I will have to work on my food, as last time I had problems with my weight and lost far to much resulting in an endless series of ilness/flu/whatever seriously affecting my training. Halfmarathon is aprikl 21 2013 Marathon is may 19, 2013. And then there will possibly be something in UK in the spring if travelplans work out as planned Cheers Nick
  6. Marathon is almost 4 months ago today. In those four months I have managed to get out just about 8 or 10 times covering 70 KM in total. We are not impressed . Better get myself together now. Next marathon is in 8 months, and I have just entered a 5 race cup in december. Cheers Nick
  7. A bit quiet recently. Lets start gently again. I suggest Mother Theresa brings this track along on the RBRR. Cheers Nick
  8. Hi Steve. You do like this: Enter your photobucket. You see this picture When you point at a picture the picture gets highlighted, and a box appears underneath it saying share/copy. Click on the imagecode (circled in red) Now the picture code is automatically copied, and is ready to be pasted into you post on sideways (or whereever you wish). You will not see the actual picture before you hit the "post" button - the post will just look like this Cheers Nick
  9. OK - a month(ish) ago my steering column started to smoke, and the lights went out (with a rather nasty smell following) Since then I have followed the Lucas advise - be home before darkness Then yesterday - The Mad Welder and I finally found some time to investigate the problem. SWMBO had released med for five hours, so we were kind of working under pressure. Plus - we had to be sure that the problem was either fixed - or at elast the car was driveable before sunset (driving at night without headlights takes a less girly attitude than mine ) Anyway - this is whart we found: The red circles shows where the plastic had melted. I am stumped as to why this happened. The fuse had not blown, and the wiring were undamaged. The solution were on the shelves in The Mad Welders workshop. A well used but good switch. A bit of soldering, and everything were bright again - this tome with a relay!. Now I just had to reassemble the steeringcolumn, wich is a bloody nightmare on a car with columnmounted ignition switch Now while I was working under dah, The Mad Welder took a bit of time to investigate my OD wiring. The OD stands (stood) as a testament to my laziness/incompetence. OD were installed, all the wiring existed, and the proper relays were in place. I just had never gotten around to putting the wires on the relay, since I had absolutely no clue about how to connect them (or the time/ability to find out) Anyway - in about 30 minutes The Mad Welder figured most of it out - even secured the circuit with another fuse Mission accomplished - car was running - lights were on and I could get home. Had to call SWMBO and ask for forgiveness as I were running a bit late. When I started the car and pulled out, I realised I had lost the flashers. Since the wiper and fuelgauge were also gone, the poiter were at the fuse. Easy peasy - bad connection. A bit of tampering and I was on my way. On the road I dared to engage the OD, fearing the gearbox would explode. OD engaged within a second with a soft clonk - Iand I was a happy trooper. All in all a GREAT day - with many thanks to The Mad Welder (JMH) Cheers Nick (now with lights AND OD) ps: On the way home I met a spit 1500 en route. Rare sight in denmark.
  10. Great. I am looking forward to thr build tale :-)
  11. Of course it is Green. Any proper spitfire is green. I am not sure they come in other colours. However - they come in different shades of Green. Last time I did Round Denmark I used a Laurell Green spitfire. This time I tried in a Lichtfield Green one. I guess there is a little more Uuumph in the laurell one Cheers Nick
  12. I am here. Tired. Havent slept since friday morning. Mad Welders Spit got a good flocking. Need to fix carbs. Megajolt worked for entire 2000KM. Lovely ride in a lovely car. Full report later - must sleep Cheers Nick
  13. Try that with a Triumph 6pot and I would be seriously impressed Cheers Nick
  14. Well, as 99% of my projects, relays are in the pipeline. Everything has been purchased and rests nicely in a box in the basement waiting for me to get myself together. Story of my life..... Cheers nick
  15. Yes - apparently. Will you be there on friday for a nice round denmark reliability run? Take of is at 7pm, Cheers Nick
  16. My nice morning was interrupted by first a strange smell. I switched the heater of,as I suspected the heater had a smelly start of the season. After all - it was the first morning in ages where I had needed the heater. Then I noticed smoked coming from the steering column where the indicator and the lighht switch are. A rather foul smell, and I turned the lights of and avoided using the turn signals. I cant get my headlights to work now :-( Bugger Cheers Nick PS: should this be in the ranting section?
  17. Nick B. - King of bodging strikes again. Glad you solved the problem allthough the solution was the quick and dirty one Cheers Nick
  18. Couldn't you bodge this just by forwarding the mails to yourself? Cheers Nick
  19. Germany is a part of EU - no tax or VAT applied. Only from countries outside EU. Cheers Nick
  20. James - consider yourself lucky. Danish government allows private citizens to import goods up to 25 pounds (sic!)and then adds 40% tax and then adds 25% VAT (to the new price including tax). That goes for postage as well. Oooooh happy days. Usually they value the goods and uses their own currency converters. A few months ago Craig sent me a pair og HSU6 for down under. They were superb and priced to sell, but danish authorities valued them at 1.000 pounds. They were shiny and for rich boys toys seemed to be the verdict. Luckily they seemed to beleive the documents supplied by Craig, so they eased a bit on the valuation. Cheers Nick
  21. Best thing to clean vith is a sonic cleaner if you could find access to one. Next best is any solvent that does not attack alloy. I have used cellulose thinners which is amazingly efficient. Cheers Nick
