Mother Teresa
I have the later calipers fitted to my GT6 and am looking to fit a better set of pads than the current Greenstuff dust machines, i.e Mintex pads. This is for fast road/track day use, trying to catch Knackerjack ;D. Can anyone recall the particular ones that you guys recommend? And does it make a difference that my calipers have the vented conversion :-/ I don't see how, but I don't want to presume. Merlin Motorsport seem to be a popular destination, might they be the cheapest- they are only 10 miles away from me.
Mother Teresa
As an aside, my wheels are not as easy to clean as I would like(the surface could be smoother), are the Mintex items 'dusty' and is the compound straight forward to wash off, or is it quite aggressive to the paint finish? No issue! You have late calipers, so the pin size should match the Ford M16, so maybe no drilling needed. Use 1144. FINE @ Combe. Mintex less dusty that EBC, washes off EASY. DaveNotSoSideways
Collinite 476S, the greatest wax ever! Do your car, two coats, it'll last 12months! Dirt just washes off with a hose! It's awesome!
Royboy66
Brucie , Im running the 1144's, i like em!, not suffered any fade yet on the road, they did well around le mans too! some dust, but rinses off easy! cheapish too if you doing a few miles a year! use the castrol response fluid too, nice firm pedal! Nick Jones
Bruce, I too use 1144s. Was seriously considering a servo before I fitted them, but not any more. Nick
Mother Teresa
Right then- contentious question time: I'm going to ditch the current old silicon brake fluid( :. I love the fact that it wont try to eat my car, but it did go alarmingly spongy after the Trackday sessions, when the car came off the track and the cooling air was lost. So, am i right in thinking I can just ditch the silicon and put the mineral fluid straight in without having to change any seals?
DaveNotSoSideways
Can't see why it would hurt, use Castrol Responce Dot4. I'd prime the system with new fluid, roughly bled, leave it overnite and bleed it through completely again the next day, so it flush out any "mix". You'll need 1 litre and not to waste any. Mother Teresa
I'm not missing something obvious here am I- these are one and the same pads below? Seems strange these days to find such a pronounced mark-up? DaveNotSoSideways
Merlin are VERY VERY expensive, on everything, up to double that of other retailers, they do however have EVERYTHING in stock and very very good service. You pay for that.
mattius
agree with that, i ordered exhaust parts, one was out of stock, i got a phone call and two emails about it appologising, damn good customer service but you do pay. most other suppliers make you wait and dont bother even getting in contact
