  1. Hi Interesting, there`s about 1 1/2" clearance between the mounth of the stub stack and the case lid, do you think that fitting a deeper K&N filter or Pipercross type foam filter, would remove the possible effect of the case lid?
  2. Hi No, the car has always been fitted with the pancake K & N filters. You think the standard filter case would make more power?
  3. Hi I recently had my modified 1500 (Midget!!!) rolling roaded at Aldon Automotive. The car is equipped with 2 K&N 6"X 2" chrome filters with internal stubstacks. When the car was run up without the filter elements and lids, it made flywheel 104 bhp. However, when the filter elements and lids were refitted, it only made 102 bhp :-/ Considering that these filters are advertised as good for 120 bhp each, I was supprised to say the least. Has anybody else experienced this with K&N filters?
  4. Hi If your looking for a 123, I`ve got one for sale on ebay under triumph spitfire. As new condition and barely used. Car scrapped following bodywork MOT failure.
  5. Hi GT Well, as the saying goes-"you can slide further on bull***t than gravel". In fairness, my main drive is a tdi Golf so I can`t really compare, I suppose its more about how it drives? I`ve decided to go wiith a large valve head, then get the car set up again - this time at Aldon. If it breaks, I`ll have to break open the piggy bank and get it rebuilt. The trouble is the cars a Midget and not a Spitfire!!
  6. Hi The needles started as standard with red springs, but were susequently modified by Mick the dyno operator. The cam timing was found to be retarded by over 10 degrees and duly corrected. Compressions were checked and found to be OK The car makes 77 bhp at the wheels-although it certainly doesn`t drive like it.
  7. Hi Located in the West Midlands I intend to use the Fast Road Big Valve-Peter Burgess head. I`m running a Piper 270 cam / standard leaded head and a Maniflow manifold and exhaust and K&N filters. Although the cars been on the dyno 3 times (Hi Tec) it seems to run poorly-with lots of noise and no go. It doesn`t seem to burn oil running on the road, but it does smoke out of the breather when cold.
  8. Hi I`m in the process of rebuilding in rebuilding my Triumph 1500 engine (in a Midget!!). Standard reconditioned bottom end. Triumph Spitfire MK111 camshaft. Peter Burgess larve valve cylinder head. Maniflow manifold and single box exhaust. 1 1/2 SU with fixed jets and plain butterflys. K & N air filters with stubstacks. Questions - A reasonably priced engine builder, who can put the bottom end together and time in the camshaft. What type of pistons and bearings? Is it essential to balance the engine? Anybody tried the Peter Burgess cylinder head (or a better alternative?). Any idea what power this spec of engine would produce? A good company to set-up tune the engine? Thanks Steve
