Just passed my test!

Just passed my test! (5/10)

  1. Hey guys, you may remember me from being on this forum years ago. Have a little Mk2 spitfire that's been my pride and joy for years... Well, sad to say, it's time to part ways with it https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1409516 Now I've put it up at that price because I've a mountain of parts to sell with it and I thought it'd be easier that way.# But i'm now thinking maybe i should sell the parts separately? - Anyone here good at selling cars online? :D If anyone's actually interested in the car, it's in Fishbourne nr Chichester . ...Currently looking sad and neglected
  2. Hey!, some of you may remember me from the past. I've a Mk2 Dark blue spitfire, live in Chichester, you may remember i did a time-lapse video of a 1300 rebuild (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daVDrGsaDME) I then kinda disappeared off this forum but that was because... I was using the car lots! In the summers it's been my daily driver, in the winter stowed away in a dry lockup. Took it on holidays a few times, overseas too!; Once to the Loire for a friends wedding (this was the reason behind the engine rebuild) Then a few years later drove it to Spain!, over the Pyrenees. The somport tunnel was closed so i had to go over the *actual* top - i can tell you my engine did not like an altitude of 1650metres! I could barely keep it going in 2nd gear, blending the clutch to keep the revs higher... Made it though, and the downhill to Canfranc and on to San Sebastian was something i'll always remember. I've not really done much more to her, I replaced the fixed read spring with a swing spring setup (Canley's kit) which i found to be very good, plonked a 3 point something (3.6) diff on the back for more settled cruising, and that's it! She's been surprisingly dependable, though over the last few years has been getting a little tatty here and there. More recently I've moved back into the Chichester area to a house with a carport and garage, so I've *finally* got the opportunity to work and use her more. No specific plans of yet, but EFI and possibly some kind of electric assist are on the cards.
  3. May I suggest.... Go to France. Do roundabouts in France. in a RHD spitfire. Girl ends up in your lap everytime
  4. Surely an entire body would be lottery-win money, like 5 figures?
  5. Haha, I experienced this smoke for the first time last night - trying to fix an intermittent indicator switch i bridged the headlamp feed onto the car chassis. So much melted, the smell was awful, it took hours to fix. Mental note - disconnect the battery before you go playing around behind the dash, you idiot.
  6. Thanks again chaps - and no, don't work in the industry, just a hobby I enjoy. The real question is, will the engine make it to the Loire valley with August?? I certainly hope so!
  7. Cheers - and yes, a photo for each frame, so there were points I'd snap, undo by 1/2 a turn, snap, undo, snap etc, 3000+ pictures in total
  8. Thank you! It's really nice to actually finish a project...
  9. No this isn't spam! Started out as just a collection of snaps as I stripped down an engine bought off ebay. (To replace my old engine, which had suffered catastrophic failure). The snaps were so that I remembered how everything went, so I could put it back together again. Then I realised it'd be quite cool to make it an animation. found some suitable music, rekindled my ancient knowledge of Premiere, storyboarded it, shot it as I worked on the engine (my poor DSLR got covered in engine oil), this was the result.
  10. Interesting you speak of plugs - I did a trip up to London over the weekend (yes, the hoon doing a burnout on westminster bridge on Sunday was me... Sorry.) The car powered on up the A3 fine, but as i was coming in to the city, idling and very-slight power became quite lumpy, (like missed sparks). this is the only time it's happened (the engine was blistering hot by this point). It was absolutely fine if i accelerated hard. I've somethingsomething-5 plugs - would somethingsomething-6 cope better? (ie. is it higher number = better at higher temperatures)? Also, hindhead tunnel, 4500rpm, exhaust with no middle silencer - i need new eardrums.
  11. Steve, never has a wiser sentence been said! Fix Mechanical pump, Get correct Electric pump and regulator when I go mega squirt.
  12. Bingo bingo. Think I've got it: With Carbs Tank -> Filter -> Swirl Pot -> High Pressure Pump ---(A New fuel line)---> Pressure Regulator -> Carbs ..................^..............................................................| ..................\--------------------------------(The old fuel line)----<------/ Injection Tank -> Filter -> Swirl Pot -> High Pressure Pump ---(A New fuel line)---> Fuel Rail -> Pressure Regulator ..................^.....................................................................| ..................\--------------------------------(The old fuel line)-----------<------/ Something like this? http://www.demon-twe...-injection-pump (7bar) and this? http://www.demon-twe...ssure-regulator (Damn, this has not got a lot more expensive than just replacing that mechanical doobry)
  13. High pressure pump in the boot?? I'm confused, I thought it was low pressure pump in the boo, going to the swirl pot, then high pressure pump to the fuel rail, with a return line coming back to the swirl pot?
  14. My mechanical fuel pump is being a little s**t. So, I want to replace it, and as i will be going megasquirted over the winter, i'd like to hit two birds with one stone. So, as i'll need a fuel pump in the boot, which in the end swill supply a swirl pot and then the high pressure pump, Will one of these play nicely with 2 SU HS2's with no return line? (Or will it be too much for them to cope?) Something like this? http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/fuel-pumps/facet-solid-state-electronic-fuel-pump-kit "A 12 volt negative earth pump with a flow rate of 12 gallons per hour and a delivery pressure of 2.5-3 Psi. " Will 3PSI be too much for the SU's?
  15. Thanks guys. Looks like i'll be sticking to metal then!
