Nice thread, but I keep seeing a glaring hole in the debate. Understandably, the government etc are supposed to be there to devise a framework for society, but the responsibilty ultimately lies with the parents.
A neighbour's son has been excluded from school for waving a knife on the school bus. Now, he's not some street-inclined lad and he's only 12, but his folks wave it off as just one of those things. To be fair, the lad is slight and a spark plug short of a straight four, but WTF??
I've never had to do it to my boy, nor would I want to, but if he did that, I'd tanned his hide. And if I didn't, I deserve to be whipped. It's alright saying the kids have no dads, but what about the uncles, grandparents, etc.
That's my biggest grief. Bring back the cane, it didn't hurt me (well, only until it healed).
