GT6_sleeper Posted March 26, 2009 Author Posted March 26, 2009 Just an update for you all, Thanks to Nick Jones I now have my Megasquirt V3 back fully built and he tested on his car and loaded with all of his maps and due to the different versions he had to do this by hand so big thanks for that Nick. Got a good 5mm thick trigger wheel from ebay, got my wiring loom from Glens garage, here is a picture, I cannot stress how good the quality is for the low price. Nick recommended I buy one as the DB37 cable is a bugger to wire and solder, this one is all done for you and every 6 inch down the wire it tells you what its for, i.e VR sensor. $53 and $34.44 shipping well worth it. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XkDKagkYOU0/ScpmotoU7iI/AAAAAAAAAFM/_oWGXDtFEnA/s1600-h/IMG_2422.JPG Got a MG throttle body as pointed out by James the stud pattern is the same for the 48mm 52mm and 56mm so I can swap them about with ease if needed, im going to be making the flange for the end of the plenum this weekend. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XkDKagkYOU0/Scf__R6Rn6I/AAAAAAAAADM/mW0lDAblzeg/s1600-h/IMG_2402.JPG So all in all got just about everything now, GT5R is doing my Inlets as soon as they come back I will have the fuel rail made up by a local guy I found who does them. Soon be back on the road again ;D More pics and details on the blog.
GT6_sleeper Posted April 5, 2009 Author Posted April 5, 2009 Just a little update for you. the plenum now has the throttle body connected, I had the plate welded to the plenum then also jb welded it just incase of a pin prick hole in the weld. the trigger wheel is now mounted to the pulley, for those of you with a keen eye, yes there is all 36 teeth with none missing, as soon as i check its all ok with sensor i will simply grind away one tooth. made a bracket from one piece of steel for the sensor. very very strong. booked a week of soon, so hopefully have it running again, there are loads more pictures and info on the blog ;D
James Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 How have you got the throttle body attached to the plate? welded some captive nuts on the inside?
GT6_sleeper Posted April 5, 2009 Author Posted April 5, 2009 How have you got the throttle body attached to the plate? welded some captive nuts on the inside? nope, just made a plate with the bolt pattern and had it welded to the plenum the throttle body then bolts to the plate. no welded on bolts just a cap bolt and nut to bolt it on, it is a very tight fit though. the jb weld will be tidy when I finish it need to sort the linkage for the throttle cable first.
elsieolly Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Cools sensor mount, could you send me the template for mine, i still have to sort that out later? Laurence
GT6_sleeper Posted April 6, 2009 Author Posted April 6, 2009 Cools sensor mount, could you send me the template for mine, i still have to sort that out later? Laurence I changed it slightly so i will make a card template with measurements and post it soon. 8)
GT6_sleeper Posted April 7, 2009 Author Posted April 7, 2009 Hi guys I have been pondering how to attach my throttle cable to the throttle body. I am at work so only have MS Pain so sorry for the crap picture Im looking to use the two original brackets on the plenum and mount a bracket that will simply unbolt. Here is the idea not sure how close to this it will be when I do it at the weekend?
Jonb67 Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 How was it mounted on the car the throttle body came from? I know quite a few have a plate that bolts between the throttle body and the plenum. If so this would set it perfectly and would just bolt on!
GT6_sleeper Posted April 7, 2009 Author Posted April 7, 2009 its a large plate that sits to high for the gt6 bonnet, looked if i could modify it but when i did then did not seem to offer all the support I needed i could use one like this. i will have a look tonight
Jonb67 Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Could just put it on and slam the bonnet a few times to make a "power bulge" ?
GT6_sleeper Posted April 10, 2009 Author Posted April 10, 2009 Fitted my trigger wheel and sensor today, was not sure that my TDC was correct and I had a spare Payen head gasket so I took off the head to double check, at least this way I know its correct. well taking the head off showed the tdc was perfect as marked on the pulley, well at least i now know, sorry pictures are poor what with a fractured hand which was very oily so i had cloth holding the camera to stop oil getting on it.
GT6_sleeper Posted April 12, 2009 Author Posted April 12, 2009 well more done, got the boss welded into the exhaust collector. may look close in the pic to the starter but there is about a 1 inch gap.
GT6_sleeper Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 just an update on the progress, the PI manifolds needed chopping and rewelding for bonnet clearance after a conversation with bog brothers today they have now taken a load of work on and carnt fit me in for 2 weeks :-/ but if cut the manifolds and taken them in they can weld them while I wait tomorrow, so thats what I have done today with a digital caliper, hacksaw and lots and lots of filing 5 hours after I started they are now cut and ready. here are some photos this one is before i started the filing to get them all spot on so off to get a beer now. ;D
Jonb67 Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 That looks really smart. Do you need to bevel the edge to give a V to fill with weld? I heard of manifold cutting mooted on many occasions - nice to see some pictures of the job in action!
GT6_sleeper Posted April 21, 2009 Author Posted April 21, 2009 just todays update, manifolds welded today just some pics of it all together. ;D
GT6_sleeper Posted April 23, 2009 Author Posted April 23, 2009 got a bit more done today, at last no more clearance problems. i have done a before and after so you can see the difference. sorted the temp sensor to.
Royboy66 Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 looking like its coming together Gareth! nice one! you on schedule for cadwell?? Roy 8)
James Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Where did the get the adapter for the temp sensor Gareth?
GT6_sleeper Posted April 23, 2009 Author Posted April 23, 2009 Roy, hope to be just got to wire it up and drill fuel rail fit new alloy fuel tanks, thats about it thanks jonny james made it myself, just cut the tube part off so it was a nut then drilled and tapped it m12 1.5 thread. just to note the blanking plugs/vacume take off nuts in the manifold are the same thread for screwing into the waterpump there. lots more to do today, one of two fuel pumps i orderd came. p.s loving how easy it is all to put on the head with the new cap bolts ;D cheers Mr_GT6 for that
RK Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 is there any particular reason that you don't use the butterflies from the throttle bodies, and use the single big butterfly? cheers, Reinald
GT6_sleeper Posted April 23, 2009 Author Posted April 23, 2009 fucking pissed off today, some of you who read Gerards post about him breaking his leg know also know i fractured my hand in two places, well it has been a little painful but ok until today I smacked it on the engine when putting the radiator back in, to cut a long story short I have to go back to hospital tomorrow due to its current swollen state they carnt do any thing all they can tell me is i have now broken it and caused the bones to pass each other, fuck me it hurts. anyways here is an update picture or two. put speedo cable and air filter on today this also means air temp sensor also on there. took the inlets off and steam cleaned them had to put two new roll pins in anyways as they were missing?? not sure when they came out. RK, no reason really just went this way. keeps it easy
Royboy66 Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Be running shortly then Gareth! shame about your hand mate! can you drive?? :-/ like the ibuprofon box placement!! guess you be runnin on that for a while!!
