  1. New Master cylinder fitted and bled. However gearbox struggling to go into 2nd and third moves about under load. Spoken with Chic Doig and he says the circlip that retains 2nd is renound for unclipping its self allowing second gear to move not letting you engage the gear. He has quoted me £265 for recon gearbox made by chic from old stock so will be good or £175 for them to strip the current box down and repair the clip and maybe 2nd gear depending on condition. Maybe a job for next month if I can stretch the budget as cars due MOT next month. What do you think i'd be better doing??? New box or repair old??? Chris.
  2. Cant tell yet, depends on how much work I do to the head etc. Don't know what the going rate is, you will have to ask again closer to the time. Chris.
  3. Hi Aar0sc, If you are willing to wait 8 month then my newly rebuilt, rebored, hardened valve seat, lightened, balanced,tr5 cam large crank 1300 will be up for sale? Will be half the price it cost to built too. I'm going 1147 next year......Don't ask why as I think I'm loosing it. It has oil/filter every 3thou miles and is pampered. Will also have dyno read out to. Chris.
  4. We at Judo Scotland are tested on the rowing Machines as a 6 monthly test(with no prep). We do a 2k row as fast as possible. This gives our Strength and conditioning coach a reading to see how fit we are. However about 2 years ago we used the rowing to improve fittness. Here are a few small circuits for you. 1. 10sec flat out, 20sec rest. Repeat 20 times 2. 20sec flat out, 20sec rest. Repeat 10 times 3. 90sec flat out, 20sec rest. Repeat 5 times All are nice and short but improve you alot. Finally: 4.2000 meters as fast as possible, this will give you a genuine reading of how fit you are at rowing and every 6 months you can do it again. This will allow you to plot your progression. Good luck in the rowing, Chris.
  5. Nice, at least you have started. Ha Ha. Chris.
  6. Welcome and nice car. Enjoyed your write up on other site. Look forward to hearing your next posts. Chris.
  7. As a full time athlete and Royal Marine Commando, I really can't stress the importance of stretching before and after a session. General flexibility can easy double ones performance(like good car maintenance). It also stops injury's and increases recovery. Also keeping all the joins moving properly is also a big help. Never stop completely as you will seize up. Start with a target....a small one, once you complete it go a little further. As for those who are running or running and walking, I'd say try to run and walk different sections each time. As if you run the same stretch each session then the body actually learns this and just becomes more efficient at the one course and when you change it you feel unfit. So if you run a loop, then on some days go the other way. If you run up the hills and walk down them then try the opposite. Even if it seems easier than before, your body will appreciate it. Good luck to you guy's on your journey's, Keep the fire burning. Chris Sherrington.
  8. Hi, slave was brand new last year so will see how the clutch feels after fitting the new master. Liquid was very grey so maybe both but I think it will just be a cheap sh*te seal kit from india. As for GT I think he just wants to help(no money). Chris.
  9. Ok after speaking with GT he has given me some pointers/parameters to up my engines output. 1. 25 deg advance at 2,600 should be peak torque 2. With TR5 cam adjust valves to inlet 0.08 and exhaust 0.10 when hot 3. Remove long ram pipes and replace with shorter 1 1/2" ones. Difference is impressive, Ive also fitted a new Dizzy and Electronic ignition kit. Ive also sorted out the water pump squeal which turned out to be a knackered belt because of alternator miss alignment(Canleys high output alternator). Alignment corrected and new belt fitted. However now I have another problem the refurbed clutch master seals are breaking down so gear change is rough. New uprated master ordered from ebay will probably get another for the brakes too. Chris.
  10. Hi all, done a couple of things this week. Have a gear shift problem, refurbed clutch slave is failing(one year old). New uprated item ordered from ebay as well as two UJ's for the prop shaft. Also sorted out water pump squeal by reducing the Canleys high output alternator spacer and replacing the belt. I was also informed by GT that these engines prefair a 12.3 max power ratio. So I have reverted to the AAQ needles and he also noted that I need heavier carb springs as my mixture leans a ted before rising. Another interesting thing GT told me was that I should not use vacuum advance on the dyno. However the best things that made the most difference was to adjust the valve clearances to inlet 0.08 and exhaust to 0.10 when hot and to make sure I had 25deg advance at 2,600rpm. These two things made the car a hell of a lot more responsive. Chris.
  11. Sad to hear it Mattius, was looking forward to meeting up some time. Give us a bell if you ever get chance. "distance makes the heart grow fonder" Chris.
  12. Yes, mate will be 1147ing the spit early to mid next year speed of build depending on funds but it will happen regardless. Engine, exhaust etc will all be up for sale to give funds for my 1147 screamer. Hope to get this engine putting out a decent bhp/torque figure but nothing stupid. Just nice to drive and reliable. Chris.
  13. Solved it your self mate, give your self a pat on the back. Chris.
  14. Hi all, Ok its results time and unfortunately my original fears have come back to haunt me. This GT exhaust is designed for a much higher powered engine. The RR guy took one look and said he thought the GT Manifold looks a bit big for the hp my engine makes. Guess what he was right. Here some pic's: With the car strapped to the RR, same operator, same weather and air temp. Only three differences that are present on the two tests. The first is the GT Exhaust Manifold, second is that there is play in the prop shaft uj's and finally the water pump has started to squeal a little. None of these will make too much difference though as all are very minor. Here's a Video: Here are the Graph's, first is Bhp and torque. Second is torque and fuelling. Pacesetter Manifold is Green, GT exhaust is RED. As you can see we have a loss of a few hp almost right through the range and its the same with the torque. However what the graph doesn't show is how much better the bottom end to mid pull feel is with the GT manifold(it also fits much neater). However The pacesetter manifold makes 4.5 more bhp and 2ftlb more torque. As said previously the GT manifold is designed for a high performance motor and unfortunately mine is not. However over the next few months I do intend to remove the head and skim to an acceptable comp. ratio and do some light porting. It will be interesting to see what effect this has however the Pacesetter manifold has been sold, so no more back to back tests can be done. Watching the RR video I do miss the noise that pacesetter made, however I know that the more performance I extract the better the GT manifold will be. The RR guy's last words were, "I'd definitely keep this exhaust and go get her skimmed with a bit of light porting, then you will see some real results". I think I'll take his advice but not this month. Hope all are well and everyone has enjoyed this RR Thread. Chris.
  15. I Love it when some one says something is rubbish or can't be done especially when ive been doing it or have done it......My Su's were running the spec's I'd just shown with the last manifold on my 1300. Idle 14-15 depending on engine/air temp. Maybe not with Webbers(never tried them)but my Hs2's managed it fine. I also have a lean part throttle cruising at 15-16. The only bits I've not got at the mo is the 13.2-12.6 WOT top end. I'm currently at 13.5 at 2,500 increasing to 12 by 6,500rpm. My engine was rebuilt 6 months ago with a TR5 cam. However my compression is currently stock at 8.5. Cheers anyway Dave..... Chris.
  16. Was looking at the fuelling results from yesterday and it still seems a tad too rich on top wot. So I started up the WinSU needle comparison table and it came up with ADY. So now ordered for tomorrow are a pair of ADY needles. I'll test them on the way to the RR and if they don't come up to par then I'll swap back to ABB's as they are very very close. It seems as though the Pacesetter 4-1 manifold used a bit more fuel up to than the GT 4-2-1 manifold does. However this difference is very small and will probably make no difference accept to me the picky tuner. Chris.
  17. Booked in for 14.30 tomorrow for a RR session. Chris.
  18. Ok so the final verdict is in and........The ABB's are the closest I think I'll get. So all that faffing around and wasting of fuel thinking I needed richer needles. All I really needed to do was add or subtract a couple of turns on the mixture screw. End of the day if you want to tune your car then the Lc1 Wideband sensor is the only way to do it. No more guessing, just the facts. I'm gonna be in touch with the dyno guy tomorrow and see if he can fit me in cheap. Wish me luck. Chris.
  19. Ok, so AAQ's.......Still Too rich on top but only just...... So Guess what.......Now im Gonna try the ABB needles that were used in the last exhaust. I ran these before but it didn't run well so might end up back at the AAQ's. Will go and test and report back. Chris.
  20. Hi, the 8 port heads have different spacing. However depending on the results of the RR I might borrow an idea or two from the GT manifold. However also bear in mind that this manifold is designed for a 140bhp car so might not get as good results as hoping. Even the exhaust ports are reshaped, where my head is completely stock with stock comp. ratio. As for testing.....Its so nice to have the LC1 back plugged in. ABD was too rich on wot and way too rich on idle. Next is AAQ's. Will be back in 2 hours. Chris.
  21. Just say the engine blew up randomly and you couldn't possibly sell it now. Tell us more about it, how it drives etc???? Chris.
  22. Max power WOT 12.6-13.2.......Economy 14.5-16.......idle 13-16......part throttle acceleration 14.5. Just to fill in the gaps, Also remember that there is always a compromise with carb's you can never get everything the way you want it. Chris.
  23. Ok, well before without the LC1 I was definitely shagging in the dark while wearing a gorilla suit. Now with the bung welded in.....See pic: Now its like the lights are on and im wondering why im still wearing a gorilla suit? Anyway, ADK was too rich on wot throttle/top end. Cruising was ok but a tad rich and idle was rich too. However for a comparison I'm gonna stick in the ABD's and see how she runs with them. Wish me luck........I can feel a Dyno session coming!!!!!!
