Hello All

I got as far as windows 10 and thought that's enough I do not want things on the cloud(just store them to a big old hard drive ?

I up grade our laptops to Solid state drives but only 500GB which is enough for normal things and starts up quick!

Then back up onto your old mega hard drive because you are not after speed then!

Plus they do not seem to want Defraging??(different thechnolagy??)

plus as cheap as chips now?

Roger

ps I maybe talking complete rowlocks but it seems to work for us?

pps I did buy a cd off Fleabay which is a dealer one so I can load W10 as many times as I like and it was cheap?

retrieved an old tune file and loaded that into the PC and into the controller so its back to how it was before the new PC.

Still issues with the coolant temperature reading in the Megasquirt, reading very low. Put in the calibration data I measured when i put in a new sensor earlier this year, still not correct.

Decided to measure actual temperature and voltage across the sensor. Running the car in the drive and let it warm up, the EFI CLT was all over the place and never went above 45C (the real temperature was >75C).
Checked the connection to the sensor and measured the sensor resistance and then realised what I had done...
When I fitted the sensor it was a tight fit and I assumed it was a tapered thread and sealed it with a good amount of PTFE tape which is an excellent insulator.... The sensor earths thru the body of the sensor to the engine, with all the PTFE it was not getting a good connections and so the CLT that the EFI was reading was all over the place!
Took it out cleaned the thread (its a straight thread) and refitted it with a sealing washer!
Now the EFI and the real temperature agree and its much more stable... :)

Hello Mike

I used the type that has 2 connectors and a plug that clips on like the injectors!

Me too! Best way as you can take all your instrument earths back to a common point and minimise offsets and randomness.

in retrospect much better idea.  :)

Busy working thru some jobs on the Herald (a rather long job list) which meant removing the GB cover etc. Hate this job but much easier than doing it on a GT6!

I have redone the repair on the GB linkage that I fixed when in Wales. Now has the correct length bolt and a nice new Nylock nut on it, should not come loose again......
Also replaced the rear GB mount, it had started to get soft, been in the car for about 8 years, so that any spirited left or right turn would allow the GB to move and the prop shaft would hit the transmission tunnel! A real pain to change as access to the nuts ad bolts holding it is difficult...
Topped up the GB oil, I think the front seal is leaking so will have to keep a check on the level.
Also readjusted the rear brakes which needed adjustment after the weekend in Wales. There is some bearing noise from the back end but both rear hubs seems smooth and dont have any play so maybe its from the diff.
Also got the horns working, the earth wire from the horns to ground had gone O/C (there is a relay between the original cct and the horns). Replaced the wire and have horns again!
All back together and ready for the rain to stop..... time to stop fiddling and drive it. Got to go and pickup the grand children from school tomorrow so will take the Herald. Walk them home as cant really put them in the back without any proper belts...

yes the wiring is a mess under the dashboard.... :(

You call that a mess……:ninja:

Does your gearbox actually have a front oil seal? They don’t all. Earlier ones have a scroll arrangement, which mostly works ok… except when parked nose-down.

Hello All

Remachined my scroll gearbox and managed to fit a seal to it and it was dry when I had the gearbox out before the Spain Trip!

yes it has a real seal, its been machined to take one but I forgot to change it when I fitted the gearbox earlier this year. Yep stupid.... :(

Same here, but then I can't remember where I left the list....

Would be more funny if not so true :pinch:

I am currently looking for the list I wrote last night. I can remember a couple of jobs on it, but it was a long list.

Equally frustration I am "snagging" some flats. One kitchen door handle had a stripped thread. So brought it home, carefully tapped the monkey metal and loctited a 5mm stud. Could I find it yesterday when I was leaving th ehouse? Nope. Spent 25 mins googling trying to find a replacement, amazingly toolstation had one VERY similar for a mere £1.98 so picked that up. Fitted, did some other stuff.

Got home, found the repaired handle on the kitchen worktop where I tend to leave my car keys, and had picked my keys up yesterday morning. How the hell did I not see it? It is a real talent...

Because it was not there.

I too experience this and understand that it is a vindictive supernatural phenomenon called invisiblititis, which only men of a certain age experience in relation to inanimate objects.

It’s the living in two (or more) parallel, but not quite identical universes which keep crossing over that gets ya….

(That’s my story and I’m sticking to it )

Temporary Total Existence Failure.

Because it and you are temporarily in the other universe…..

Not to be confused with plain Total Existence Failure where it’s just gone and never seen again.

Related to this, there is evidence to suggest that the female of the species may be able to inhabit both universes simultaneously and is thus able to find and capture objects invisible to the male.  This is useful though also embarrassing and irritating, and is of course the origin of the saying “man-look”

Today I changed the headlights from some very good halogens to new Phillips LED H4 units.
Not sure about the very white colour but the beams look very controlled. Will test them tomorrow when I go out for the the TSSC/CT local meet.
The are longer than the standard bulbs but have a lead for the connection, there is enough space to put that at the back of the lights.

I have already got LED bulbs in the rear that do help to make the car more visible. Will add LED bulbs to the front as well.

I just worry about whether they will dazzle other drivers.....

Looking at that beam pattern I think it’s fine. They don’t care about you….

Were the Phillips LEDs horribly expensive? And where do you get the other LED lamps from? I’ve not been impressed with the ones I tried…

The Phillips were about £60 a pair from Amazon, you can spend more! At least the Herald only has 2 headlights..... I had tried some cheap H4 bulbs from Ebay but they were useless, poor light output and very poor beams.. The rear bulbs I think I got from an Ebay supplier but I plan to buy the front ones from Classiccarleds.co.uk will let you know how good they are. Like all the LED technology its improving all the time.
BTW I have found (GT6, TR6 and Herald) its really worth spending time on cleaning the lens and reflectors  to make the most of the light from the bulbs. It really does make a difference!
