Hello Nick The tape came off on the wet grass! I have broke out the New ones that I have had for about 2 years?(I must have seen a cheap offer as I would not have paid the £40 to £50 Screwfix ask!) Roger ps Taking Spitty out on Saturday to test the Shock Aborbers and I have left the spacers at the extra 0.250 above the spring pan and set at 3 clicks out of 11 I still do not have a clue what I am looking for? But I will be in the company of 2 TR6's that are driven quite hard and no Memsahib with me!(Off on a jolly in Norfolk!) So Foot Loose and Fancy Free what ever that means? Roger
Nick Jones Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 Ah, you need proper Duck tape (the Gorilla stuff is ok too)

rogerguzzi Posted May 18, 2023 Author Posted May 18, 2023 Hello All Now my cultivater decieded not to start yesterday (its only about 50 ? years old barley run in?) So I stripped all the points down(means taking off the flywheel!!!!!!!!!!!!) and still the bugger would not go! So I walked away before I set fire to it? So another day and do it all again but the Gods were against me this time a Tiny spring shot off Never to be seen again then the points lead boke off the fixing bit? So after a bit of a fight I got the Bugger going and she did not miss a beat for the 10 to 15mins it took to cultivate my little vegeable plot? So that's until next year? (I do wonder about myself sometimes!) Roger 1
rogerguzzi Posted June 2, 2023 Author Posted June 2, 2023 Hello All It just gets Worse!!! I went to open the bathroom window to let a fly out and the bloody thing nearly dropped on our water solar panels as the frame by the bottom hinge was complety rotten! And this one is only about 20 to 25 years old(Things just do not last any more?) So that got me thinking as I know several are rotten as well but they are 32years old and a lot of the double glazing has failed? So I start looking at replacements in wood but then I notice that the modern Plastic(UPVC) are much small profiles than they used to be! So then I find a manufacturer who supplies only so no smarmy rep trying to sell me ones at twice the price so he/she gets a good bonus? So now I am starting to Panic as we have ordered 11 windows of various sizes including the front porch 3 pane one and a new door???? They will be delivered 30th June 3 days after we get back from Spain! I am now thinking have I taken on too much? but I HATE paying anybody for things I can do myself as you can see from my other posts! But then I thought Sod it and just ordered 150 concrete screws off Fleabay as they were cheaper than Screwfix by about £15/£20 and they are the same make as the window people supply as I have ordered 1 fitting kit but it is just 12 screws and 40 plastic packers(I will cut up the Memsahib's old chopping boards that I have saved!!) Roger the Idiot!
JohnD Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 "Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world," WB Yeats' apocalyptic poem, 'The Second Coming' https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/43290/the-second-coming might not have the same sense of urgency, but he would have sympathised, Roger. Having seen your home, and 'Engine House' I have every confidence that you will restore things quickly to their normal state! Bests John

Roger the Idiot! I had to visit a rental belonging to a client recently. The windows that were new about 20 years ago were rotten, to the extent some glass was about to fall out (very glad teh tenant was sensible enough to report the concerns) As a temp fix I used some hybrid adhesive to reseal around teh edges of all the glass in those windows. And will be replacing them in the summer. Of course, in plastic, as they are on the 4th floor of a house. Luckily at the rear, so no PP needed as in a conservation area. However, the original 1892 windows are mainly still OK. Although the others at the back will be relaced too, as it will be cheaper than a scoffold to access them to redecorate. A shame you are not closer, I enjoy fitting windows. But would suggest a box of assorted packers. They really are incredibly handy things to have, and you find all sorts of uses for them. I usually buy off fleabay, much cheaper than local suppliers.
