Chaps

I have the old problem of the indicator cancelling itself only after right turns and not after left.  I've checked the ring with a thing attached to the steering column and the hump is in the right position.  Also, the switch is mounted as close to it as the top and bottom screw fixings will allow.  I've observed that the small spring connecting the two trigger levers on the switch is loose - is this... normal?  As far as I can see, the two levers sort of flip and flop over the thing on the ring on the steering column and do nothing to trigger the cancellation of the switch.

I'm trying to determine whether the switch is actually at fault before I (i) bugger up a perfectly serviceable part and/or (ii) buy a new one.

Hi Paul, said spring on my old spare is not loose/or rattles but has slight tension in it, if that makes any sense.

Hi John

Thanks - I think that's probably the indication (ouch!) I needed. New one being ordered...

When these get fussy/erratic it usually means they are worn/knackered, though frustratingly it’s not often obvious exactly how.

You have already checked that the cam is correctly located (9 0clock when the steering is straight ahead) and provided the switch is sat square in its mount with the screws tight, there’s not much else to do.....

FYI, my A8 has the same fault and does not self-cancel after indicating left...... Irritating, but they aren’t common in scrapyards and I fear Audi parts pricing....

The cruise control switch is also increasingly unwell. Used to have a 50% chance of success. Now sub 10%...... only 20 years old. Badly built tat......
