SpitfireBGT
Oh great wise ones, My brass float is full of fuel. are the plastic floats interchangeable, Do you have a preference between the two. My manual is from before plastic floats existed. Thanks Mike
richy_rich
Personally I wouldn't worry about throwing plastic ones in, there is a difference in measuring and setting the float level though. https://centerlinealfa.com/sites/centerlinealfa.com/assets/files/default/weber_info.pdf ^ Slightly updated manual with plastic float stuff, looks right from memory. Alternatively you can try soldering the brass float back up if you can find where it's leaking (clean the petrol out first tho! )

PeteClan
I've got carbs with both types of float but have always preferred the brass type. I had one of a pair develop a leak as yours have and I did a search on ebay and managed to find a new old stock one from Italy which including postage was a lot less than I could get one in the UK. A further composite type is available from Australia and this is to the brass type pattern but the float is the same dimensions but of vacuum formed plastic. A pair of these worked out cheaper than a single Weber plastic type including postage. I set them as the brass floats and they worked fine. SpitfireBGT
Oooops I should have posted that I fixed the problem. There is a tiny hole in the side that must be a vent to allow expansion to leak while they solder the 2 halves together. Then it gets soldered shut with low heat. I set mine in the sun and as it warmed up it started weeping gas out of this hole. a couple days of that and it was empty. Then a dab of solder with an iron and I'm tearing up the countryside again.
