Every few years I look into if I am allowed to donate blood but everytime there is a question about nasal spray which I am on all the time and that means I am not allowed to donate blood due to steroids in the spray.:verymad:

As mine is now probably a good mix of 20w50 it will be easy to top up and do the filter if needed.

Adrian,

You look it up, but have you consulted the Donor Suit staff, or asked to be referred to their medical advisors?     Nasal steroids 'per se' do not contraindicate donation.

Good luck!

Isn't it great, when the BTS tells you that you blood has been given to someone?    Really makes it worthwhile!

Hello All

We have been to the Vampire again today!

So I have given 122!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! donations now.

I found out my little books they used to put a sticker in each time you gave and the earliest one is 18th June 1965!

So my 1st one was probably February 1965 I would have been 19 1/2  so that is 56 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (now I do feel old)

The nice YOUNG male nurse who did the blood letting could not get over how many donations I had given!

The Memsahib is a mere Amateur with only 54 donations!!!

So I think we have built up a Banker for if we ever need a drop back?

Well done both and interesting.

I have given blood on and off for 20 years. Last time I pitched up about 2 years ago, when I would have been about 63, I was turned away as too old. Disappointed but didn't really query it as I was tremendously busy at the time. Something wrong menowthinks....

Hello Miles

There is no upper age limit now as long as you are fit and not on all sorts of drugs.

I think it used to be 65 as I was panicing as I want to get to 100 before but it would have been close!

Now I think they just going to keep going until I am empty!!

Absolutely right, Roger:

Quote Blood Transfusion Service - "You can give blood if you:

are fit and healthy
weigh between 7 stone 12 lbs and 25 stone, or 50kg and 158kg
are aged between 17 and 66 (or 70 if you have given blood before)
are over 70 and have given a full blood donation in the last two years"
See: https://www.blood.co.uk/who-can-give-blood/

"Fit and healthy" is the problem.   So many over 70s are on medication that they don't want in a transfusion, or even for processed blood.     I had to stop giving, and I'm nowhere near Roger's level!

Hello All

Had a visit to the Vampire yesterday that's 123 now

So I was thinking if the average body has 10 pints and I have been donating for about 56 years!

That would be a complete oil change every 4.5 years!

I wonder if I will make 125?

Hello All

I gave blood today the 1st time in over a year!

Last time my count was only 113 according to their machine but a blood test at the Doctors 2.5 days later had it at 135???

So I think their machine was faulty I would not think it is possible to make up that much in 2.5days

It rulled me out for 12 months so to make sure this time I have been taking iron tablets for about 10 days and the count was 139 today it needs to be 135.

So with todays they make it 126 donations but they give you a credit for just turning up and trying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! seems strange to me?

So I think in future I will take iron tablets for a week before because my normall level is just about 135
