Bob Horner Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Hello all. Just arrived from a chilly TR Register forum. Hope the water is warmer here! I have a TR4 which goes pretty well but is now a bit tatty around the edges and a very original mk3 spitfire that I restored a couple of years ago. Both cars have done the RBRR and planning to do it again this year. I do a bit of light rallying with the TR and try and do most mechanical jobs on the cars. However, no expert by any means so will no doubt be asking for help on here as I did on the TR register site. Regards Bob
Nick Jones Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Welcome Bob! Usually pretty warm here....... take a look around Nick
PeterC Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Hi Bob, Good to see you here. No boring Board nonsense here ! But lots of expertise. Peter
TR5tar Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 (edited) Hi Bob, Good to see you over here. Cheers, Darren Edited January 31, 2018 by TR5tar
BrianC Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 I think we are going to see a lot more TRR members on here soon. I have stuck with the TR Forum whilst we were pointing out the gross errors in managing it but the latest Board intransigence and overzealous and nannying moderating is beyond a joke. It's not just about removal of 'At the Bar' and wanting somewhere to discuss non-motoring topics with TR friends (including non-TRR members). Most of the TRR members dipping a toe in the Sideways water are amongst the main contributors to the TR technical posts so perhaps if enough move over here and cease participation in the TR Forum, the technical value of the TR Forum will wither and the Board will scrap the entire Forum, fulfilling the long declared wish of the majority of 'Directors'. I really don't want that to happen, but there is no evidence that the Board is going to take notice of the wishes of 200 members.
PaulAA Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Hello Bob Good to see another sparring partner arrive, but I share Brian's sorrow that the future for the once enjoyable TRR forum is dark and dull. Cheers Paul
Bob Horner Posted January 31, 2018 Author Posted January 31, 2018 Agree with your comments BrianC - I bet a lot were waiting to see which way the board jumped before jumping themselves. I suppose the last response from them was the cue to look elsewhere
PGB BME Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Bob Good to see you, there's a number of TRR Forum guy's on here i'm sure you will recognise them Phil
Hamish Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Whilst as a newbie here it’s not my place to welcome you. Nick has speedily done that. But to say you will find everyone here helpful and friendly. Despite the ruckus over on the TRR side of things. I won’t I’m afraid be giving up on them. For purely selfish reasons as I bought my TR3a and joined the club just so I could participate in the sprint and hillclimbs championship. And us TR folk mustn’t take over here. All triumphs as catered for which is very refreshing. H
Nick Jones Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Don't think anyone should give up on the TRR forum. I think it's a shame they've done what they've done, but still plenty of traffic and expertise there. Both there and here are resources to be used, enjoyed and contributed to. My regular cyber patrol includes here, Club Triumph, Retro Rides, TRR & Triumph Experience to a lesser extent and occasional trips to Audi forums, though the C4 A6 forum has nearly died as the cars have died and I no longer have an A8..... There are others, but life is too short. Nick
BrianC Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 I doubt that any (or at least very few) TRR members will leave the TR Forum. Most of us have invested too much time and effort in various aspects of the club, Forum and local groups to simply allow poor management decisions and communication to force us to give up on (probably) the best one-make car club in the World. It is sad that we seem to be in a cycle of controversies which are becoming ever closer together. I wonder if any other Sideways members experience this never-ending aggravation in other clubs? It was bad enough when I worked for a living but now that I have more free time to take notice of day-to-day news programmes there is plenty to wind me up there without enduring the same in my hobbies. Maybe it's just that most people that have the same interests and hobbies as me are of a certain age and just love to complain, criticise, rant and assume their views and decisions are always right (and I'm the first to admit that I'm no better myself).
JohnD Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 The foundation of this site was as a split from Club Triumph, which is still going strong, and TSSC has made some pretty crass decisions in the past (IHMO) that affected other clubs and its own website/message board. I won't rehearse them now, and will be grtafeul if others don't. I make the point to say that TRR will certainly continue as they have. For me, I'm sorry that the diaspora of Triumph continues, when our cousins in, say, MG, are more united, if only at the massive MG International at Silverstone every year. People in power have spoken of integrated Triumph Internationals and the Triumph Marque Day as the model, but they have been doing so for years, with no real progress towards integration. John

It's not that employment is rising or unemployment falling, its just a sixty something generation that can no longer officially retire! and are quietly starting their own grey economy
