Sidescreen Ben Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Hello, just joined this forum having heard about it from other virtual friends. I run a TR3 which was extensively "improved" by the previous owner for rallies and hill climbs. He has now retired from this activity and I have picked up the baton. It is a "doer" rather than a "looker". . Looking forward to meeting new and old friends on here!
Nick Jones Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Welcome Ben! We like "doers" here. Have I seen you in action at Gurston Down? Nick
Sidescreen Ben Posted January 6, 2018 Author Posted January 6, 2018 Thank you Nick! No I haven't ventured into hillclimbing........yet. We've done the CT Round Britain & 10 Countries as well as the Paris-Prague Rally all within 12 months which has added 10k to the clock. Down for the RBRR again this October too!
TR5tar Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Good to see you over here Ben. Glad you are a "doer" ... I just have to content myself with being a looker

Ah, well must have seen you on the 10CR then - I've done the last 5 as I find them rather addictive! Not so much the RBRR. Did that in 2008 and felt the lows outweighed the highs - basically I can't sleep in a moving vehicle and was completely wrecked by the end. I generally marshal at Badgers Holt on Dartmoor, which is near enough the end to remind me why I don't do it! It is a bit weather dependent I think. In 2008 the weather was pretty bad throughout, but especially the second the night. 2016 the weather was pretty good throughout and people were in noticeably better condition at Badgers Holt. Just been hunting through my 10 CR pics - is this you? Nick
Sidescreen Ben Posted January 6, 2018 Author Posted January 6, 2018 Yes, that's us Nick! Fortunately you can't see my wife dribbling in the passenger seat (she has absolutely no problem sleeping even with the roof down!). She is in the process of joining as I type.

Just be thankful she's just dribbling and not falling out, Ben - her door's not shut... Tim.

foster461 Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 The doors are so low on a sidescreen car you cant doze off as a passenger without fear of falling out at the next bend.
Sidescreen Ben Posted January 6, 2018 Author Posted January 6, 2018 Don't worry she's wearing a racing harness

Just been hunting through my 10 CR pics - is this you? Nick Nick, if I recall correctly we followed you out of Rolduc heading up a small convoy of a red Vitesse (Malc Philpott) and white TR4 (Tim Hunt) and because we thought you were off to the main drag, all the way into nearest the fuel station where we realised your beastie was just thirsty and not heading for home! The car was particularly grumpy on the way home until we discovered there was no oil in the carb dashpots! (usual crisis of suspecting everything else first of course!!). We had (still have!) a serious oil leak from the front crank pulley/timing chain cover which meant that I begrudgingly sacrificed some engine oil for the dashpots - OK just a smidging!
Nick Jones Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 That's right. Actually a miscalculation as it would have cheaper to fill up in Belgium and we did have enough to get there. Didn't use any oil on this run - which made a change from 2009 when we used 6 litres . The old engine was a bit weary, but still managed the 2011 & 2013 runs fortified by Wynns before being replaced for the 2015 run. Nick
