Not really Parts of the Story missing. DEC 2020 it  was running. After some fiddling  With the Carbs  I was happy.
Spring to autum this year there was no Real action in the Workshop with my Cars.

My time was limited as I went into early retirement last year. To limit cuts in the (civil servant) pension, I have to work 1000 hours  as a volunteer. I am doing this in a museum in our village. It  is called RömerWelt as in our village there is the starting point of the Limes, a famous Roman border. So I‘m painting wooden  desks, Roofs, repairing all kind of things, sitting at the cashier, …….  To be honest, nice work, nice people,  …

685 hours done. Way2go 315 as of today. Target to get it done by autum next year.

Some weeks ago I got the Polo wheels mounted. Looks so good.

Perhaps MOT in Spring?

Cheers Martin

Yes, for newer steering wheels they recommend a Kind of liquid sealing, for older ones an Elephant grease. All supplied in a Kit.
The steering wheel is from the eighties. Qualifies this for grease?

Www.lederzentrum.de they are very good. Used them for our sofa as well. They do mix leather colour according to a sample. English Website available.

Got MOT two weeks ago and registered  the car today. Insured it from April until October.
Friday I plan to have a first real test drive:biggrin:

:goodjob: Excellent  Looks great - purposeful!

The approved Craig test method seems to be to go straight out and drive 1000kms….. Whether this should include some hot laps of the Nordschliefe….:ninja:

First test drives did not please me.

Still starts a bit rough. Tick over is not good (even taking into account that it is a highly tuned engine thus will not run as my Vitesse or Spitfire but …)

Then ignition dropped for a second in an erratic manner . There is an Accu Spark module in the distributor. But when I disconnected the rev counter dropping was cured. Rev counters for the early Polo not available. Hens teeth would be easy.

And the worst, pinking under Load.

Rolling roads fully  booked until wintertime. Thus a lambda meter will be ordered tomorrow.

Oh. Not ideal….. Fresh fuel? Wrong jetting? Is the engine spec and jetting the same as “back in the day”?

On the Rev counter, are there not specialists who  can restore these? There are in the UK.  But maybe first take a look inside to see if there are any electrolytic capacitors? If so, change for new ones of the same value. Electrolytic do age and fail more than most components, especially when not used for a long time.

Went from 34mm venturis to 32. Main jet from 145 to 135. Air jet 170 or 180. Replaced the 47mF Elko in the rev Counter. Ignition Drops stopped.

What a difference now. With a 316 cam it will Never run like a GT6. But goes really well.

Downside, Not completely where I want to be. To stop the pinking I had to retard the ignition. Thus only approximately 25 degrees advance at 5000.  I think I have to Play with different distributors.

BUT FUN.
