Nick Jones Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 It will live again And what about the oily bits...…..?
Martin Posted February 19, 2020 Author Posted February 19, 2020 There are no oily bits as there was nothing with the car, only the Body with roll Cage. I got a front used front Suspension which I shot blasted in my Cabinet with already rebuildt brake calipers. Rear axle is in the car and was the old one from my racing days, but that is quite clean. Weber DCOE I already have, engine was sourced from a race Driver and was rebuildt and nicely painted. Rest missing and will be sourced when nice offers Show up.
Nick Jones Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 Could you squeeze the running gear from a 2wd Audi TT in there? Guess the TUV would be unhappy.....
TRTOM2498EFI Posted February 20, 2020 Posted February 20, 2020 Those 20VT engine fit beautifully in the MK1 Golf, and make a great package I sold my 2L 16V MK1 Golf in 2014, but if I still had it, this would be the engine I would install.
Martin Posted February 21, 2020 Author Posted February 21, 2020 It was done the 1.8t into a Polo. There was a tuning company named Salzmann who produced auxiliary frames for such changes. But that was all done after my time.
Nick Jones Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 Would be pretty rapid I reckon and maybe a bit of a handful. Our TT180 2wd is pretty quick and alot heavier. Easy to get a fair bit more than 180 out of them too.
Martin Posted June 18, 2020 Author Posted June 18, 2020 (edited) as the body with all parts is still with the paint shop, I started to do small jobs as I´m on the recovery from a surgery and only allowed to do Things that are not exhausing ang weig up to 5kg. The DCOE are lighter. For the first time I did som blasting with glas bead. Edited June 18, 2020 by Martin
Martin Posted June 18, 2020 Author Posted June 18, 2020 new for me that there are some lead balls missing which closing some Drillings. Have to investigate the size and Punch in new ones. Perhaps with a lick of JB weld.
Nick Jones Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 Cleaned up well - shiny Good to see you getting some quality workshop time!
Martin Posted June 28, 2020 Author Posted June 28, 2020 Mate from the paint shop brought the car back. They did a great work. No panels are not yet aligned. Only provisionally mounted for easier transportation .
BiTurbo228 Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 Looking really good! Hope the surgery recovery is going well too
Martin Posted July 28, 2020 Author Posted July 28, 2020 Feeling so much better, I start now with more serious work.
Nick Jones Posted July 28, 2020 Posted July 28, 2020 Any oily bits captured yet? Something to hang your Weber’s on? Great that you are feeling good but don’t go too crazy
Martin Posted July 29, 2020 Author Posted July 29, 2020 I do have an used but rebuildt engine from an ex Racer. Gearbox still needed. Most parts present like Radiator cooling fan , heating matrix , starter, alternator . I always bought parts when a cheap offer came up. still on the search for an oil cooler with adaptor.
BiTurbo228 Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 Good to hear you're on the mend car's looking good too. Nice cage!
Nick Jones Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 Have an 085 series box here that came from our old Arosa. Took it out because it had the gears from a 1.0 petrol engine car (no good for a diesel as on the governer at 68mph), but as it has the front casing for a diesel (big block series) and you probably have a small block 1300 it’s probably not much use..... Free to a good home (or anyone who wants it)
Martin Posted July 30, 2020 Author Posted July 30, 2020 Already chasing a gearbox. Need a 4 speed GD one. Luckily they are cheap.
Martin Posted July 31, 2020 Author Posted July 31, 2020 Previous owners I do love them. Lever for the aceleration Pump wrong Drilling. Thus Piston movement 17mm instead of 11mm. Made a very sophisticated special Tool. Oh my god. The new lever cost 23 €
Nick Jones Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 €23 No chance to re-drill the old one? Carbs...... witchcraft.
Martin Posted December 22, 2020 Author Posted December 22, 2020 What a year 2020. Only one upside, time for the cars. Yes its running, but at present unable to establish a good idle. But that will be sorted out in spring when I paln to get MOT. Wheels will change to steel 5.5 13 Golf I GTI ones. With 185 60 13. I´m considering Yokohama 539. Any experineces? Cheers Martin
Nick Jones Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 Well...... that looks rather good Even better with the 5.5" wheels. A539 seem well regarded but no personal experience But seems to be some parts of the story missing....... 4 hours ago, Martin said: Yes its running, but at present unable to establish a good idle. You have an engine....?!
