Whew….. that’s a very learned article. However, it seems that one is screwed regardless of the presence of water as you get one type of corrosion with ethanol plus water and another with ethanol alone. The latter seems to happen at higher temperatures though.

Used it again today to take us to Dads. 24 mile round trip, no aggro.
Except it runs on. I mean it REALLY runs on. It’s always done it a bit (took me by surprise after years of injected 6s which don’t).

Do wonder if it’s related to the odd noises it makes when properly hot…. Hot spots causing pre-ignition?

Mine used to run-on pre rebuild, but it was quite a high mileage engine and the head hadn't been off for >100k miles.

I have always understood that it was caused by hot spots, ie carbon or those hard deposits that sometimes form on exhaust valves.

A friend has an anti run-on valve on his Vitesse (Ford IIRC).

Uncle Buck type of REALLY running on?

Never really got to the bottom of why the sixes tend to do this more than the fours.

Hot spots seem the most likely. Always possible to get a bit of soot buildup here or there running on carbs with a modified or higher mileage engine.

Yes, my gt6 very occassioally runs on. 120000 ish miles, never gets   hot, hot, no smoke, plugs ok, no pinking. Does short runs locally, would benefit from a good run I think. Need to get the dragy out.

Had a good ragging today. Still ran on. Doesn’t have to be especially hot to do it.  Did burn epic amounts of oil to begin with, but has largely settled now. Plugs are pretty clean.

Idle speed is a bit high, which doesn’t help, though mostly it seems to run backwards, which at least means it’s limited on fuel to what has gone down the exhaust as it winds down…..

Basically a nice car that needs quite alot of final detail sorting…..
