Richard/SIA Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Merkur XR4Ti rear hub, stub axle, and bearing mount drawings?I am trying to engineer a new rear suspension for my "Trick-6" project. Buick V6/T5 in a plus body. Stock rear would evaporate even if I had one. So the Merkur seems a reasonable substitute. Anyone have drawings or a link? I think these have been in use long enough that drawings should be fairly readily available.I will have to redraw them anyway in my CAD but still simpler than having to reverse engineer them if available. I tried to contact the fellow who had already done this conversion but he never replied so I'm on my own. Could also use some help in how CV axle length is measured along with original XR4ti lenghts. One long and one short, not sure yet how that will affect my intended design. Really just getting started.
motov8id Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 (edited) better known as Ford Sierra. Subaru makes diffs that will handle more torque than your 225 can produce and there has been a lot of discussion here about them.. Why not a narrowed Ford 9" solid axle? Richard/SIA Posted September 7, 2015 Author Posted September 7, 2015 Personal distaste for using Jap parts in a british car, just seems sordid some how. Live axle is no as I want to retain IRS, just improved. The Sierra bits have the correct PCD for the wheels I have.
Nick Jones Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Lot of older Jap car parts are better made copies of British designs...... Probably not that much help but Reliant made a car called the SS1 which uses a narrowed version of the Sierra rear end. They aren't common even here. Different approach but might be of interest http://spitlist.info/VetteDiff.htm Nick
Richard/SIA Posted September 8, 2015 Author Posted September 8, 2015 I actually made good progress today on fitting the diff. Going to complete that before tackling the rest of the rear suspension. I think I will start a new thread once I'm further along and have pics. I can say that the diff is off-set for equal length axles while mostly using a cut down original mount. I may try to reuse the original GT-6 lower arm mount and an improved lower trailing link. The top side link is probably the real challenge.
