hi all, i am in the process of restoring a gt6 mk2, and have just ordered a new headliner, does anyone have any experience of fitting one ?

have some quotes for someone to fit but so far the cost is prohibitive.

i am thinking of doing the job but have no experience of fitting one, any tips or help would be greatfully accepted

or if anyone knows of a trimmer in the hatfield area who is mobile that could be an option.

thanks rowan

I've not done a GT6, but the Herald I did was pretty easy.  We even made the headliner ourselves using the old one as a pattern.

Presumably the glass is all out?  If so it is basically a case of threading the bars through the pockets and getting it clipped up there.  Then get it centralised and work around with clothes pegs or bulldog clips until you've got it sat right.  Then it's time to break out the glue.....

I fitted mine. One thing I found is that the pockets that the steel bars run through were slightly too long. That meant that the headlining couldn't be pulled taut side to side. Once I'd unpicked a couple of inches of sticking on each side, it tensioned much better. Another thing I found was that humidity changed the tension of the fabric. What was taut on a dry day went saggy on a hot, humid day. Then again, I live in the sub-tropics!

I started at the windscreen and worked towards the back of the car. Once each portion looked right I'd glue it, leave it for a day to dry and move on to the next section. It was one of those jobs that a professional could do in a day and a first-timer could do in a week.
