magnumf3 Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Hi, new to the site. Been involved with both Motor Trade and Motorsport for 30 years. Interested in all forms of specialist/performance motor vehicles. My web site: www.johnholmesracing.co.uk has details of my history and present projects! David
pomwah Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Welcome, some interesting cars you have, or had. Looking forward to seeing that GT6 perform. I think most here will agree that it's easier to fix the mechanical bits than the rusty bits, in that respect you certainly got a solid car.
Nick Jones Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Welcome! You seem to be making good progress. Driveshaft conversion looks familiar. You might want to think about using the "fastboot" type CV gaiter on the inner CVs as they are more compact and reliably miss the chassis. Raceparts are usually the cheapest place for them. Cheers Nick
GT6Steve Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Very nice! It all looks clean and well thought out. I'll look forward to the updates. You might want a bigger fuel pump when the car hits the track....
aoie Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Very interested in your rear end conversions! What was your choices for the upper CV joint and the coil over shocks? I'll be doing my own upgrade this winter and would like to engineer it as best i can around off the shelf parts I can duplicate (order online) when needed. Andy Madison, WI USA
magnumf3 Posted August 10, 2014 Author Posted August 10, 2014 Thank you for the feedback, will be updating web site again this week. As you pointed out Nick, we have had to change the cv boots for the "aero" type used on many single seaters! incidentally Nick, I did contact you via email a couple of months ago about driveshaft lengths. The info you supplied confirmed we had the metro shafts but for some reason these were too long for our conversion. We have now fitted MGF shafts which appear to be working ok. Andy, we wanted to keep the rear end conversion as straight forward as possible using off the shelf parts. The inner cv joints are lobro Volvo 340 type (also used on Ralt Formula Atlantics!) the shafts and bearings from the MGF and the std. GT6 upright machined to take the MGF bearing. Altogether quite a straight forward conversion and so far early road tests indicate very effective. We chose AVO dampers as they have some proven race track performance and we were offered a good discount direct from AVO, just need some fine tuning now. Spring rates used at present are 600lb front and 200lb rear mainly as we had these on the shelf! We have had to pull out of the 360 event at Snetterton as some teething issues with the car and other projects taking up time it would end up being an expensive test session. However it will be on track later this year. David
aoie Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 David Thanks for the response on the coil over rear shocks! I will be installing the GAZ equivalent. Im curious on the coil length you decided on, and what the resulting clearence is with the lower CV joint. Information I found so far was that a 6" spring would give me clearance but my response from GAZ was that i should use a 8-9" spring to get some movement. Thanks for the pictures on your website, it's nice to see what I'm trying to achive! Andy
