JohnD Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 I have another make of similar charger, and looking back, I've had to use it a lot to keep the battery tiptop, so I think that it hasn't been charged well from the alternator for some time. Yes, Nick, the 'ignition' light goes out whne th engine starts. Apart from the lack of a 'charging' voltage when the engine is running, I'd like to havesome further diagnostics, in case there is a fault other than the alternator. The wiring is converted from the old dynamo and Voltage Regulator, but I didn't do that! Any tests possible to check the diodes or the internal regulator? JOhn
JohnD Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 (edited) My problems are a complete thread hijack, so I'll start another - "Alternator problems" . Millstone10 Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 For my tuppence worth. They look good and they are leak proof. This is the Odyssey PC680 with up to 680 cranking amps and turns this mildly uprated 2l easily. It has uprated compression but I dont know how much ( ) except the engine numbers were fully machined off. Cranking is far better than the standard battery it replaced. I keep it on a CTEC conditioner now after one "sulphided" up due to an earth leak discharging it over a long lay up period. That applies to all batteries though. At a car show here in sunny Brisbane a week or so ago I found my mini PC680 in good company. I think this shows is well within the 6cyl capability
2.5piman Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Hello Millstone, fancy battery, a pity about the battery clamp, that's a real hazard! Alec
