Welcome dude. You'd be surprised how many of us can understand your plight. Get that car back, an hour a day is awesome therapy for the caregiver. Time to think about you!

Think most of us have been there, one little step at a time and it comes together in the end.

A little bit of R&R on a car is always good...

I acquired my GT6 in 1990 (40th birthday), it was normal basket case. In fact it was probably at least 3 cars!. Got it's first MOT in 2005!! It's still a work in progress which drives the wife batty. It's been under a sheet in the garage for about a year 'cos life got in the way again (daughter's wedding, new kitchen, bathroom, cloakroom etc).

It's a medical condition this - the only syndrome that hasn't been given a name yet?

Who am I kidding, I don't want to be cured!!!

I bought my car as a box of bits and it took me 3 months to get it on the road. Im a Royal Marine Commando, elite athlete and time served machanic. However i wasnt happy with it so hatched a bigger plan once my wedding was paid for. Im now 6 months into part 2. Haveing done this for a job the best advise i can give is.........

1, only have one project.

2, The 7p's. Prior planning and preparation prevents piss poor performance.

3, Let it slip

4, Do it once and do it right.

5, Be proactive(i hate this word)

1, you need to focus on it. If you have more then one you cant focus and eventuallly get side tracked.

2,Plan as much as possible. Write yourself a to do list. Also write a list of little jobs to do when you get pissed off with the main things. Also give yourself a time scale this helps you to focus but make sure you base the time scale realisticly based on cash, time and abilitys.

Posted

3, Let it slip a bit, this is ok as long as you factor it in. Things change and plans change.

4, Do it once. This is cheaper in the long run and makes you happy knowing its done right. Ask lots of question of what would suit your project better or what would suit your use for the item

5,Proactive........Fuc*ing hate this word and the Pc enviroment it came from. Anyway dont let yourself become stressed. If you get stuck then ask for help. Bad day at the office? Then change the job you are surpose to do on the project until you have the strength to tackle it or do somthing that goves a big grin factor. This means you are still doing something but your moral is maintained at a high so fatigue doesnt crack you totally demotivating you. Another point to make here is if there is something very difficult that you are not cofident about then give it to a specialist or local garage. This way you keep you spirit high and get the job dpne. After all its surpose to be fun.

So if your project has slowed or stopped and lost momentum then start again at 1, Dont just read this and go yer ive sort of do thos. Actually do it!!! and before you know it its you thats driving past people with open mouths at you car that you built.

I spent 25 years in the Army with serious deadlines then 20 years as a project manager with serious deadlines. Hell, this is supposed to be fun!

If I wanna just stand there looking at it and scratching my balls then I will!

The only deadlines now are literal, i.e when I die I stop procrastinating - guess that will be progress?

Just got off the phone to my old mentor - he's had a stroke in the last couple of years and his wife's died of cancer. He's housebound and can't do any of his hobbies anymore (golf, model making, wood turning etc) - hell he can't even do the washing up! We are the lucky ones.

And I notice the ncoll has renewed his competitors licence - and he's even older than me!! Respect mate (mine's in the post too)!

True George, but I'm sure I'd have more fun driving it than contemplating it's rotten alignment, rust, dodgy brakes, clapped out exhaust dizzy and carbs, the gaping holes between the windows and hood frame, etc...

Talking of ancient men who drive very fast in circles, How's Pete (Clan)? :D

4, Do it once and do it right.

Amen to that!

My broken valve turned into takining the entire engine down. I kept saying things like, I should check the head, seeing how I have the valve cover off....I should change out the cam, seeing how the water pump and head are off..... I should check the ______, seeing how the ______ is off. Can kind of keep going and going.
