On a (then) recently bought sp250. The brakes felt a bit wooden

Once I got them out!!! and cleaned up the caliper a new piston and seal set got it working fine.

That'll explain the reason why the overdrive was slipping.

Looks the same but not the same, bugger.

Got a new 25% clutch from OD Spares, built it all back up this morning. Orientated the pump cam on the gearbox and the overdrive fitted straight on, bit surprised at that as spent ages trying to get it on before.

Anyway it got its own back, took hours to refit it to the engine, was just about to give up for the day and did exactly the same thing and it just slid on, laughing to itself I guess.

Big bolt up tomorrow, I'm supposed to be looking at the heating system but the missus is out all day.

Forgot to take a photo of the planet gears, as the manual states there's a centre punch mark on each gear which gets aligned with the scriber marks.

However one gear has a punch mark and a scriber mark on an adjacent tooth, that's the one you need to align up to the carrier mark to phase the gears.

She may notice if the house is still cold when she gets home :ninja:

Good luck with the reassembly. Suggest a road test before refitting all irritating interior shite…. But no doubt you are way ahead of me on that….

Trial fitted the prop shaft and exhaust, then took them off again as I had forgot to check the prop shaft phasing, it was out so glad I did that while it was an easy job.

Think we've all been there with that one

As the weather's crap and the roads icy or flooded, I have just been putting the car back together slowly first thing in the mornings.

Got to the stereo unit and the loud speaker connections are playing up, if you waggle the wires the speakers come and go, connectors are firm in place.

So can anyone help identify the connectors so I can order some.

Just ordered a 4 pack, cheap as chips.

Hopefully that does the trick and its not the sockets inside the unit.  Not the highest quality connection design, but common on 70s European electronics. Odd choice for a car stereo as they are quite capable of falling out unprovoked on a static domestic stereo.

Decent looking weather for you too.

Interested to hear how you got on with the spring spacers. I found them to be too thick and took them back out as they made the car sit far too high.

About 18mm higher which surprised me as I did file them down.

Took the screaming banchee out for a drive around the lanes to see if it all worked, all seems good, over drive is quiet and on the button, diff seems an improvement as well.

This week I've put freelander studs onto all the hubs.  I han issue with the original studs where I was not getting enough thread engagement with the extra thickness of the alloy wheels.  I ended up and stripping a nut (or two).  Freelander studs are much chunkier (and longer) so I can now torque up the wheelnuts without issue!

Had to do the engine in thrust washer replacement again this weekend.  It's been many years since I last did it (there's a thread I consulted for guidance) but not very many miles.  Crankshaft bearing surface really is chewed up, which is a shame as this engine pulls fairly nicely at the moment.  This might be enough to actually kickstart the herald 13/60 engine build that's been sat in the corner of the garage...
