AJ.Lintern Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Well I've insured my car this week - just got to MOT it now :
smithy Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 "camper than Lawrence Llewelyn-Bowen's shaven poodle" ;D ;D Cheeky beggar, he doesn't have a poodle! http://www.llb.co.uk/laurence/gallery.php ...But I know what you mean. AJ, your confidence inspires me.
AJ.Lintern Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 It's ok - I was driving it a few weeks ago, should hope it passes with ease... :X
lordleonusa Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 New Electrical cables arrived from Autosparks in Nottingham today, that's FIVE days since I ordered them, all the way from the UK. Amazing! Fantastic service, just punishing shipping cost. L
smithy Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I hadn't realised steel's got so expensive lately. A quid per 1lb? I went round to cadge some flat this afternoon to make up some brackets for my radiator and my spanner-wielding mate was a little tetchy. Still, here ya go - tigged in and not looking too bad I think, although that flexy-hose beast on the top of the rad is a bit tight. No concours prize then, never mind. Was about to cut the Spitfire radiator brackets off and something stopped me doing so. They may come in useful eh?
Royboy66 Posted June 13, 2009 Author Posted June 13, 2009 After my throttle cable getting more and more stiff&jittery on the way back from Cadwell, I went up to Halfrauds, and they matched up my cable with a gear cable from the premium range! Its inner cable is coated, and the outer cable has a nylon type liner! Now its SOOO Much smoother! A very simple mod for a Very much improved Feel ! :) Right, we off for a drive to Pontesbury, Heard theres a Butchers there That sells Boerwors! yum yum, fire up the Braai ! ;D (cool)
smithy Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Roy - you get about dontcha? I need a throttle cable - got a description or part number I can use? (You're talking your GT6, right?) I've spent a happy time fitting hoses. Fun. Trying to do up the heater pipe house on the front bulkhead requires a degree of flexibility or a spanner fit on the jubilee, of course. I chose a spanner. I've also found a leaking core plug (oh happy day). The ignition barrel I got on Ebay turned up, so I fitted that too. The car will actually have a shroud that fits today - whoop whoop! I'm still doing anything I can to avoid working on the interior. :-/ Here's a shot of my CD juke (got it super cheap from a bloke who was going to get thrown out of his terrace in Leeds unless he flogged it). I re-aligned the laser yesterday - very pleasing - no skips, just loud. That's as off-topic as you can get, no? ;D
Royboy66 Posted June 13, 2009 Author Posted June 13, 2009 Yes Smithy! GT6, I had to go from rod link to cable when I fitted the SU's. I will see if I still got the box the cable came in. mind you theres probably enough left to make another one! Dont go buy one for a few days, give me chance to see if I got enough left to make another up for ya! Roy. Nice Jukebox! ;D 8)
GT6Steve Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 99% finished the long secondary 6-3-1's this morning. Gotta do some bolt tabs and the tailpipe. It'll break at the collector to ease removing the pipes. Quite a disparity in weld quality from beginning to end. There's a LOT of small bits in there... There's a few more pics in the Photobucket album for the lurkers... 8)
DaveNotSoSideways Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Looks good design wise! Well done Steve. Hard to weld that stuff without a TIG and lots experience! Interested to hear the results...
GT6Steve Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Thanx Dave, that's all torch work. I suspect my tip is one size too large as experts advised a Zero whilst I believe my smallest tip is a One. I'll enquire at the weld shop on Monday as I'm taking a "freq box" in for testing. It'll be a TIG when all the bits are collected...
2.5 Chris Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Ye Gods Steve! I'm a very impressed Lurker. Truly a work of Art. (sorcerer)
smithy Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Thanks Roy! Steve - that's very very impressive indeed.

Nick B. Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Looking Very nice Steve! Almost too nice to hide under the car! Fit some mirrors to the sills! Meanwhile, Cooked the Boerewors! this pic for Leon! mmm Lekke!! ;D That pic reminds me of 20 years ago when I was working assisting a vetenarian. That round sausage look like a uterus (inflamed) from a rottweiler - yummy 8) Cheers Nick

That round sausage look like a uterus (inflamed) from a rottweiler - yummy 8) Cheers Nick Yah.... go on spoil my Boerewors memories why don't ya . Pipes look real good Steve. We await reports of huge increases in torque in the midrange (though your midrange sounds like it might count as top end to most of us.... ;D) Nick
AndyGT6 Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 I've been in work this weekend , so I've missed the chance to get the BBQ out. Weather was good enough last week but the BBQ was stuck behind my GT6 bonnet in the shed. Engine and reconditioned g/box & O/D are now back in the car, just got a couple of small jobs to finish off tomorrow morning, then I can start on the diff swap. I'm now off for 6 days, so I'm hoping the car may be done by next weekend. Out in Manchester on Tuesday night for a meal and drinks, its our 2nd wedding anniversary, so I don't think I'll get near the garage until thursday. That exhaust almost looks as good as the sausage!!. Andy
RK Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 I managed to get my cold air intake finished this week. And gave the racer a good polish, removing all the rubber stains from last year and the dust that coverd it from the winter. Fitted the new Sabelt 6 point harness. Ready to race! Hockenheim next weekend will show, if everything works out as planned :-) Reinald
Mother Teresa Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Stripped out the valves and stuff from my failed head. Got into sizing up spec for new head and have been in discussions with my man to effect that. Timescales are requiring of my patience, but i'm happy to wait to get the right job done properly from the outset this time. Was going to fiddle more with the car, until I crushed my finger big style whilst turning the engine over by hand: gordon bennet- that hurt!!!!!! :X Then Mother-in Law had another fall and that was the end of car work for today.

I'm motivated to back away from mechanicals at the mo and paint the black stripe on the GT6 for the cards again. Such a pretty car!
lordleonusa Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Some progress made on replacing burned up cables. 11 more to go. Then off with the Webers, to clean them out, and replace them. Get it running, before removing them to take the head for a skim etc. L
lordleonusa Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 a little later. work continues in-between work and sleep! Woohoo! World Champion! (Pyro'). L
smithy Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Nice work Leon! I'm currently pulling that same area of wiring to bits on the Spit, since the six cylinder requires a stretch on the alternator wiring, boo hiss. Good work, also, selling the idea of the fire as a reason to get the head re-skimmed. Impressive.
SpitmkIIICPH Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Dropped the saloon off at the painters last week-- gone for a full-blown respray... expensive but this is probably the last time i have the money for this sort of thing. removed lights/trims etc myself to save a bit of cash.. was there today and they have already started sanding and beating out dents/dings etc. hopefully should have the car back by the end of the month - and then I can spend the rest of the summer putting everything back together.
Nick B. Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 If you chose same painter as last time - expect car to be ready in 8 months :-/ Cheers Nick
